Putting Corporal bone spurs in charge of our military after he called dead servicemen "suckers" and "losers" is itself an outrage. But republicans never cared about the people serving in the military anyway. They think of them as the hotel staff to be abused. Such an inexusably disappointing group of people.
And he was "this" close to win a Nobel Peace Prize.. Well, it would be more funny, if he had won it and start a war the next month.
What could possibly be gained by this? I'd like to point out that the US government is still shut down because congress hasn't managed to pass a budget.

That money would be better spent on social programs to help people with drug problems so they no longer buy drugs, but I guess that's not as fun as blowing up random boats.

This war will probably be more one sided than a war against most other countries. They can probably wipe out most Venezuela's military equipment fairly quickly, while Maduro is hated enough by various militias that the US might not need to risk too many ground troops. It's probably the easiest war the US could wage right now. Killing Maduro is the only part that could be difficult, but it could also not be.
Not saying you are wrong but I there is always the trees speak Spanish situation with insurgents.

Trump wants a war, but he prefers those who can't well fight back. It being so one sided probably means it'll cost a ton more Venezuelan lives. It's not just about Maduro, but terrorizing Latin America by brutalizing countries that don't let American companies take their oil wealth. Venezuela is the perfect target for Trump in so many ways, and he'll be sure to make an example of them.

I mean they are probably drug boats. But that isn't really the point. It's that he/we are unilaterally imposing a death sentence on another country's citzens when the penalty in our country isn't even death for these crimes. And, no trial, no transparency. I have an uncle that used to be a fishermen and he used to take me out for some ceviche and oysters on the weekends. Those boats cannot get anywhere near those drugs are supposedly "distributed" What pisses me off the most is: the people that go out and fish like that are usually the poorest and most vulnerable, and they get presented as drug dealers by these disgusting nazi shit, they get anonymized, blow to pieces, nobody thinks about their families or friends. About $50 million dollars US. That is kind of deceptive, though. The USS Ford costs about 7 million a day to operate, but this is a continuing cost, as she is on current active deployment, that cost is there, no matter the zone of responsibility. A carrier also does not travel alone, but with a strike group. This varries according to mission, but she will probably transit with at least three Arleigh Burke destroyers and likely a nuke powered Ticonderoga Cruiser and Virginia class submarine. The tender and replenishment ships will probably stay with The 6th fleet, based in Italy. It will also be likely that another carrier and replacement ships will fill in at 6th fleet for the Ford strike group. A good guess is that this whole thing will cost upwards of $75 million a week, depending on work load and ammunition expenditures.
Like you said, if if wasn't here, it'd be sailing around somewhere else. They spend time doing patrols and exercises. If the Navy only left port in the event of actual war, they'd be severely inexperienced and untested, which would be an even bigger waste of money.
