I see no reason to buy this to be honest. MCC has updated graphics already. They just don't have a clue what else to do with the franchise

Someone mentioned this idea, and it makes sense tbh. They have a team who hasn't done unreal engine together, what better way to teach the entire team unreal than to redo an older game completely in it. The teaching time is now profitable and they have a base engine ready for the next halo, already customized for it.

+1

It’s all pretty low cost for a Microsoft project, too.

If they don't use contractors or layoff the team afterwards to cut costs

With the corner it’s in, I feel like the whole series needs a reset.

Start with this remake, just screw it and say “we're forking the timeline after Halo 3,” and use this dev experience for some simple new Halo installment in Unreal. Simple! No weird writing, no weird lore/novel baggage, no giant scope.

Agreed, well, if you mean after Bungie anyway, reach is a major high point in the series. 343's insistence on writing being just an excuse to get to gameplay has left any future there as narratively hollow as a borderlands game.

Yeah. Of course reach is included.

writing being just an excuse to get to gameplay

I mean, I feel like it’s the opposite? They integrated all the weird novels and extra characters and leaned into complex, almost operatic, melodramatic writing hard with 4 and 5. It’s like they were jealous of Mass Effect or something.

Infinite was an attempt to reset and “ignore the writing for the gameplay,” but that’s not a bad thing. IMO its problem was dev hell thanks to the custom engine, and the whole world being written into a corner already.

I mean, even Halo 3 is an awkward thread to continue. I dunno what Halo should be now, but “MCU space opera” is not it…
