"settlers" ffs they really nicewash everything israel does

[–] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Settlements and Settler Violence are fully backed by Israel, even when branded as illegal by the State. Settlers move in and steal land, IDF moves in to 'defend' the Settlers from the people who's land is being stolen.

From B'TSelem, an Israeli Human Rights Organization that has covered this since the 1960's:

The state allows settlers to use land violently taken from Palestinians. Dozens of outposts and “farms” – settlements for all intents and purposes, which were built without authorization by the government and without plans that enable construction in them – receive support from Israeli authorities and remain standing. Israel has ordered the military to defend the outposts or paid for their security, as well as paved roads and laid down water and electricity infrastructure for most of them. It has provided support through various government ministries, the Settlement Division of the World Zionist Organization and regional councils in the West Bank. It has also subsidized financial endeavors in the outposts, including agricultural facilities, provided support for new farmers and for shepherding, allocated water and legally defended outposts in petitions for their removal.

The violent acts include beating, throwing stones, issuing threats, torching fields, destroying trees and crops, stealing crops, damaging homes and cars, blocking roads, using live fire, and, in rare cases, killing. Settlers from so-called farms violently chase Palestinian farmers and shepherds away from their fields, and from pastureland and water sources they have used for generations. They initiate violent altercations on a daily basis and use drones to scare flocks belonging to Palestinians into scattering.

Hey now, they’re just settling down, it’s not like settlers have ever wiped out an entire race just to get their land 😳

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 months ago

If it makes you feel better, often the land that was taken belonged to someone else beforehand.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 54 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Isn't the usual term for this invader?

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Lebensraum I think.

Oh sorry, that's not what you asked.

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Lebanonsraum

[–] QuantumSpecter@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Israeli ~~settlers~~ invaders eye land in Syria, Lebanon

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Then they're going to act all pissed off when these invaders ever get retribution taken against them. "They were innocent civilians"

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm agnostic, but I really, really hope the Abrahamic God is real so these "settler" assholes can get reamed by their holy grumpy toddler.

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Unless they are his chosen people and then fuck the rest of us, I guess.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Fuck Israel. Shitty ass country. I hate that the US is so hellbent on sucking their dong.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

And to think the Democrats were ~~advising~~ accusing Trump of turbocharging the situation. What's left to charge up? The IDF is conducting an entire chain of invasions at this point and openly conducting a genocide in Gaza. Were we worried Trump wouldn't performatively wag his finger while repeating IDF propaganda?

Edit - humourous auto correct is humourous.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There are differences, Gaza just isn't one of them.

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 6 points 2 months ago

Very few differences.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Dude he isn't even president yet. It's going to get way worse under Trump.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What's he going to do? Let Netanyahu off the leash that already doesn't exist?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 months ago

Give it 2 months and you're about to find out.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

The slaughter first and then the land grab. The shitty family blood feud between Isaac and Ishmael drags on.

[–] enbyecho@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Hey come on, they just want a little lebensraum.

[–] perestroika@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I keep wondering if the folks involved in the settlement process realize that their activity is an obstacle to peace.

Israel had a chance of attempting friendly relations with a new flavour of Syria (currently being reassembled from pieces, with considerable risk of continued violence). Maybe it still has that chance...

... but for some reason, Israeli officials made up their mind without talking to the other side - who were publicly saying that they didn't want hostilities with Israel - and started making hostile moves anyway, like moving troops into the occupied buffer zone and speaking of approving higher settler numbers for the annexed Golan heights.

I could undertand a few bombing runs on the Assad regime's strategic weapons stockpiles. But it looks like the government of Israel wants to ruin its relations with the next Syrian government pre-emptively.

My advise to Jews: detain Netanyahu and send him to the ICC, and get someone competent to run the country. (Or maybe in the other order: get someone competent first and detain Bibi soon after that.)

[–] geography082@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

They did something similar when they arrived the zone last time and started Israel. They have been slaughtering Palestinians since then

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

They forgot to manufacture consent about defending themselves to do the land grab. No Hamas or Hezbollah in Syria.

Turns out nobody cares. Israel can Lebensraum whatever it wants. Bufferzone for my buffer zone.

[–] hark@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

What a coincidence that they did this immediately after the rebels took over. Almost as if they were working together.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I wonder how the folks who voted for Trump or abstained from voting because they support Palestine feel about Israel being entirely free to engage in expansionism now?

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, the Dems were and are doing a bang up job of stopping them. I voted for Harris but harping on this shit when that isn't even why she lost is delusional. If it concerns you so much then how about you express your outrage or participate in direct action. Though, like many Democrats, I suspect it doesn't.

[–] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 14 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I suspect it has a lot to do with why she lost. Her assignment was to show that she was something new and she failed spectacularly. Actually embracing Palestinians would have gone a long way to that.

Biden was perfectly fine according to her even though the old fuck had to step down from his candidacy because everyone hated him.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I fully agree but it seems a lot of people are trying to pin the blame on the voters and not the party that decided apathy was a valid running platform.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

She was nothing new though. She was a rehash of the same old tired D corporate-friendly bullshit, and that's why she lost. If she'd had thrown her weight behind Palestine, the AIPAC would've taken their money elsewhere, nevermind her husband is as Jewish as they come, so that would've been a nonstarter anyway.

[–] small44@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

Trump is not yet in office and neither Biden and Harris condemned what is happening now. I'm tired of people defending Democrats by mentioning trump every time.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I wonder how the folks who voted for Trump or abstained from voting because they support Palestine feel about Israel being entirely free to engage in expansionism now?

Are you honestly trying to claim that the dems have been containing and limiting Israels advances?

Wheres this mythical pushback by the dems on what israel is doing right now? Have some real examples of dem pushback backed by actual results? I hate trump, but lets not whitewash Bidens unconditional support of Israel using our tax money and soft power.

Israel has bought off both parties in congress and the presidency, as evidenced by every vote re. Israel getting near unanimous pro israel outcomes from both parties, while the entire rest of the globe and the entire UN are deeply against Israels genocide of innocent Palestinians, invasion of Lebanon, and now invasion of Syria.

[–] AreaSIX@lemm.ee 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

You do know that you still have a Democrat president in the Whitehouse right now, right? You remember Genocide Joe? He's still president, and I sure am not impressed by what the Democrats are doing to limit Israel's expansionism. Israel being free to engage in expansionism is with, repeat after me, the Democrats still in power.
