Every religion is.

What do you say about LLM's being better at diagnosing diseases than real doctors? It may not be intelligence, but it's more than simply regurgitating information.

I mean, who would expect Starfield to fit on a disk?

That didn't take long. Welp, the fediverse was a good idea. We are in the darkest timeline.

I'm shocked! SHOCKED! Meta isn't playing on an equal playing field? There's no way I could have ever seen that coming!

I'm thinking that unless they also add a program to give low income Chicagoans bicycles, we're going to see a crime wave. Just sayin'

I love that this is the flagship viral post for the new popular Lemmy. At this point, OP's reason for not pooping is tertiary to the entertainment! Also, I'm pretty sure it's just social anxiety.

No, of course not. You didn't have to use Google chat either, but here we are. I never used it but ICQ is still dead. My point is that the billion dollar companies have more power than just making instances. Once their instances have features that the rest of the fediverse doesn't, people will be motivated to use their version instead because "it's more convenient and I can talk to my friends."

I would say that while the show does a fantastic job of bringing the books to the screen, it misses the interpersonal intimacy that makes the book series so fantastic. The plots are cool, but at its core, The Expanse is really about its characters. If you like to read or listen to audio books, I HIGHLY recommend them. A big part of where the show fails, is it was impossible for them to tell the story and also deal with the internal dialogues of each character. In the books, every chapter is told from the point of view of a specific character, so you get to know their inner thoughts and feelings on an extremely personal level.

This is one of those series where I will tell someone that if they read the books and enjoyed them, they would enjoy the show - and vice-versa. That said, if you didn't enjoy the show for the reasons you stated, and you're willing to give it a go, I think you'll probably enjoy the books.

There is no chance a Meta version of an instance will do anything to make its users aware of alternatives. That's beyond wishful thinking. Instead they'll leverage the work done by others to make a walled garden for their users.

they could make their own custom version of the fediverse, slowly diverging from the core open source version, then push the actual fediverse into obscurity, the same way Google Chat killed XMPP. Imagine a new Meta-controlled "fediverse" where you can only have an instance if you use their code and their rules.
