Reddit has always had the good stuff in the comments. The shitification, IMO, is the total lack of effort everywhere.

I gave awards to anyone who commented they were switching with all the coins accumulated for 13 years. :(
Here’s a question. Who’s monitoring Reddit’s traffic and activity other than Reddit? What incentive do they have to be honest about those numbers?
Could they BE any more annoying!
It’s a feature of tech entrepreneurship. You go until it’s boring and repeat. The problem is these fucks made so much money they don’t need to do shit. They won life and now they’re trying to take it to the next level. Even worse, they try to appeal to the masses as “regular people.” Lol
This is nothing compared to: taking you to the top of the page and undoing all collapsed comments when you click up/downvote. :( UI stuff is hard. Not sarcasm.
I talked to my aging dad the other day and he surprised me with the drag queen issue. “You want this in your grandkids schools?!” he says. I said “hold on, do you actually think someone is being hurt here or are you being stoked up by tv you sit around and watch all winter?” Needless to say, a little reason goes a long way and it’s shocking how quickly people lost sight of that.
Who decides what is fake news? The metanews agencies? The government? Which one?
Hateful instance run by hateful admin? Sure defederate it. Don’t defederate instances because they’re trying to be more open and popular.
You are right to be concerned here. Since it touts self hosting, storage should’ve been decentralized and encryption designed in a way to legally protect hosters. Alas, we have what we have, which will require a lot of moderation until it matures more. Fingers crossed. Being responsible is the best we can do right now.
Defederation should be just “read-only” and users should be blocked from posting or commenting. In its current state it just creates a fragmented broken network with silos that users don’t really know about because it silently fails.
Say what you want about the guy. He was confident enough to convince others and hubris fucked him hard. No human deserves to die, but there should be consequences if your this fucking delusional.
