Isn't Kobo made by rakuten? And Rakuten mainly operates in Germany? Also, hell get an e-reader with android on it and you can run all kinds of books on it without limiting yourself to just one company. There is even a Linux e-reader called pine note that you can buy.

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Dude, literally. Lmao. I once had an author himself give me a link to his book to buy it. The freaking other himself. For our older parents and non-techy people, I understand using and sticking to amazon, they most likely won't even notice any of Amazon's bad practices, but young folks who are techy? Come on, you know better.

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

And your mother isn't complaining about it, which is not the audience I'm talking to. My whole issue is with those who choose amazon then complain about their practices. Especially in ebooks, there is actually no excuse for anyone to use amazon anymore. I understand some people have already bought many books from them and don't want to lose their books, but at least protest them not buying more books from them.

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

Except we are talking about ebooks and none of what you've said applies to them. Amazon did not win in the ebooks department, as there are many other better platforms out there that don't fuck their people.

Lol. This is the exact same on...checks notes... every single other platform I know of. I have a kobo sage and it's the same, except that kobo runs on Linux and they don't lock their system. You can literally "jailbreak" it and still get updates from them. They also don't lock their books with encryption like on kindle so they lock you in. IMHO, there is 0 reasons to buy a kindle now, period.

There are other ways to buy books, I don't understand why so many people have a boner for Amazon. It feels like Stockholm syndrome to me. I've never bought a single book from Amazon, not one.

You mean a mentally unstable dude who sells clevo laptops?

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago

I find these very much inaccurate.

The definition of "doing God's work".

It's socialism and it is very much ok when it's for a corporation/bank/billionaire bailout/handout, and "OH THE COMMUNISM AND SKY IS FALLING AND WE ARE DOOMED AND LIFE IS ABOUT TO End" when it's something that helps people.

Are you looking for a literal apocalypse? Are you like insane or something? 😂

God damn. I came here to say something, but I don't think it would've been even close to this, let alone better. Thank you.

Hi all,
I have all AMD and I wanted to try and set the integrated GPU for passthrough for VMs and leave the discrete one for my daily use. Is this doable? If so, how complicated would it be?
Processor: Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon vega integrated graphics card
GPU AMD RX 6600.
Thank you

This is a major issue for me as a non-native English speaker (it even happens in my own language, but the effect is not as bad). Why do some authors go out of their way to make their books very convoluted? Like they make it so hard for you to connect the dots from different chapters or even the same chapter. What's the point? Do some readers actually enjoy this? Or is it the author trying to show off/feel superior? (This is not meant as an insult, just an assumption/opinion?). I've read several Stephen King books and they're mostly easy to understand, but sometimes he'd go on tangents where shit doesn't make any sense. I just skip all that "filling", as a I call it. Like who's whom, and what's just happened? Where did this come from? And so on. Tried with the Malazan book of the fallen, and holy shit. The beginning of the first book was a major pain to understand, so I stopped and I've been reading more English books so I can get better then go back to it. On the other hand, my wife has introduced me to this writer, Freida McFadden. The lady has the most straight forward books I've ever read. You read and you understand everything from start to end. I don't even find myself getting distracted like I do with the books that I have a hard time understanding. Her books are very clear and the English she uses is very simple in terms of vocabulary. Vocabulary...... That's another can of worms that I don't want to open.
Thanks for reading my rant.

So, I just had to reinstall my system and I'm now going through setting things up and SDDM was too tiny since I have two monitors that are 4k. So I set a hidpi.conf file in /etc/sddm.conf.d and put this in it

[General]

GreeterEnvironment=QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=1.5,QT_FONT_DPI=192

[Wayland]

EnableHiDPI=true

[X11]

EnableHiDPI=true

But now only the primary monitor is set to 1.5 scaling, and the other one is still set to 2. I also applied the sddm settings from the settings app and still the same results. Anyone knows how to make them both same scaling?

Thank you

Ethernet plugged in but there is no internet. I have no idea what happened. I just took a normal update like I always do and after that it was all gone. WiFi connects no problem, but there is no internet. Unplugged Ethernet and replugged it back in. Nothing. I dualboot with windows, internet works fine there, so there is no hardware issue. Went into a live environment and chrooted into it and reinstalled network manager and still not a fucking thing. Not sure what these are now. I know about the lo one, but never seen the second wired connection or the virbr0. Any idea how to get my Internet back? I really don't want to reinstall the system because of this. And btw, I even tried a hotspot from my phone and a wire tether from it and still no internet.
System is endeavour OS with KDE on Wayland.

I love books about advanced technologies that aren't real (you know, made up in those books). Not sure if that is just science fiction or not, but I love books that talk about technologies that don't exist and are fascinating. Please give me some names of books that kept you interested, immersed and amazed.
Thank you

Can he? What would he be able to take and leave? What would that do to Linux?
This question has been on my mind for a long time, but never got around to asking it.

Not sure why that is, but I have 32 GB of RAM and I would like my system to utilize it as much as possible, but as you can see in the screenshot, the system is only using 5.66 GB of the physical RAM, but swap is still being used in a high number. Is this normal? Should I lower the swappiness to lower than 10? Should I let it be? Thanks
Here is the screenshot

I have deleted my Breeze theme for SDDM (don't ask me how and why. lol) and I can't find it anywhere. I have tried sudo pacman -S plasma-workspace, but it is not getting installed. Any other way to install it?
Thank you in advance

Any Arabic folks around here? I'm looking for Arabic books that are similar to Stephen King's style. Doesn't have to be 100%, horror or some fantasy. I've found some of his books translated, but I'd like to read those genres written by actual Arabic writers. I've been away from that part of the planet for around 15 years and I haven't been following our modern writing to be honest. I've read many books for older novelists like نجيب محفوظ and طه حسين and some others, but I'd like to catch up on any new ones.
Thanks in advance.

I just noticed today that if I needed to add a new widget to my desktop/panel, I had to right click on the desktop/panel, enter edit mode/show panel configuration, click on "add or manage widgets, click on "Get new" then click on "download new plasma widget" THEN the store opens then I searched for the widget I needed. Then you are in this limbo state where the desktop is in edit mode, but you can still type into the store. Then if I wanted to add that widget to my desktop, I'd have to go back to the "add or manage widgets" and click it again and then find the new widget. Why so many steps to add one thing? Or I can go into Discover to look for it, install it and then repeat most of those steps I already mentioned. Am I the only one? I can't be, can I?

Not sure if this has been posted, but this is an awesome game and it's free.
EDIT: you need to have prime membership, btw. Forgot to mention that. Thanks to @free for pointing that out.
