Cycling communities were one of my favourite parts of reddit, and I've been unable to find any equivalents on here so I decided to start this community. Feel free to post and comment about anything related to cycling! I'd love for this place to continue in the spirit of /r/xbiking, not necessarily content-wise but definitely attitude-wise. We're all cyclists, and at the end of the day the only criteria for being a part of this community is riding a bicycle (and enjoying it!)

Please comment any suggestions you have for this space, or simply say hi and let us know what you like to do on your bike!

Are they much better than presta valves at resisting clogging from sealant?

The boring-looking one is the “new” one - even though it’s actually two years older than the “old” one.

I snapped the frame on my previous bike, so I bought another almost identical one - as one does when they don’t learn from their mistakes.

My old one has a 12x1 drivetrain, while the new one has a 10x1, and the gearing ratio is awful. It’s way too stiff to pedal uphill, even in the lowest gear. I’ll start by swapping the front chainring for a smaller one, but I might end up converting it to an 11x1 or 12x1 setup later on.

Other than that, there’s just a ton of duct taping to do.

Since the last Post I grabbed some cheapo alu forks and cranks for 1by setup, and the bike is starting to feel great. I had a weekend trip with brother in law and realized I really wanted to add then some proper panniers and aero bars for more comfort over longer distances.
Oh, and replaced the old tiagra derailleur with a grx, works great with tiagra 4700 shifters

Photo from the trip

Now also considering throwing in some 27.5" gravel wheels with 40mm-ish tires and disc brake conversion, but not sure if I want to commit on that yet.

This might be the video that convinces me to get a rear camera on my bike.

No driver should ever be allowed to return behind the wheel after that behaviour. A true danger to the public.

Where do I start with cycling? I come from a running background and I recently started cycling due to an injury. My longest rides as of now are 15 miles in 1.5 hours. I hope to cycle a century in a few months or so. But I've only been using a random bike that I've inherited.

What bike should I buy? My budget is 600 - 800$ and I only bike on road and flat surfaces. I have no idea on what brands or what parts are good. Should I get fitted at a bike shop? Should I build my own one?

Also, is overtraining a thing in biking? In the running world, injuries are pretty easy to get if you increase mileage too quickly but I'm not sure if this applies to biking aswell. Is there some sort of program that builds you up to ride for longer similar to Couch to 5K (C25K)?
