This is literally the opposite of the lesson that all successful news outlets have learned in this century. The majority of people identifying themselves as centrists think they don't need news because their rationalist egos think themselves capable of being opinionated on everything from first principles. Rightwing media survives by catering to rightwing views. CBC will never earn the favour of the anti-government aisle. Its only sane choice is to try to lean towards objectivity but without really wasting time both-siding issues because clearly most modern issues have a straightforward right side of history to be on - this game of playing devil's advocate on shitty positions only alienates their real viewers.
The CBC's audience are people who believe a public broadcaster is a social good AND that social good deserves taxpayer funding. The Venn diagram of this group with modern politics is almost a perfect circle on top of progressives.
Regardless of CBC's attempts to cater to their mortal enemies, if/when they get to power, the axe is coming.
To no one's surprise, this author puts out this kind of garbage:
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/david-cayley-cbc-actively-suppressed-credible-covid-dissent
It's from the same book that The Walrus is irresponsibly platforming. This is a guy that is objectively wrong about his approach to reporting public health matters, got rightly booted from CBC, and is now complaining about his shitty journalism falling outside the lines that a proper broadcaster is correctly drawing.
WTF. Walrus used to be good.
My issue with media on science: very few of them are educated enough to know the difference between shit and Shinola, so they weigh bad science with good science equally.
It's not hard to find bad science that tells you what you want to hear. UHN researchers in 2020 actually published that COVID-19 was from outer space. These people are a waste of tax dollars.
According to this guy, surgeons should just stop wearing masks in the operating room because they don't work.
Yeah, it's all cosplay. But it doesn't help when mediocre researchers with MDs at McMaster actually publish that masks don't work, using data from nurses, ignoring that nurses don't wear masks when not working. One guy publishes this for every viral outbreak. Why? Another publication for the CV.
MDs are a 36 month practical degree with specialized training afterwards. They are not scientists.
Just to point out for at least a year CBC has essentially done what the author suggests where there's a article about how bad something is but then slips in a paragraph at the end with some MAGA or MAGA adjacent source that tries to justify it with little substance.
Just to add a example for this although I posted quite a few in the past want to see more.
During the election Pierre said he'd override the Charter of Rights https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/pierre-poilievre-notwithstanding-clause-1.7509802
This end excerpt.
And to be clear the reason the Supreme Court overturned it was because it was a violation of the charter and violating the charter for the duration of the Parliament is still violation the charter.
There was also a thread of the same guy defending the infamous Peterson quote about women just being holes, but it looks like he deleted it. This just suffice as to what the guy is about although you could just look through the guy's twitter account.

Oof. That's egregious. So according to some people even though the CBC slips up and platforms this kind of moron, it's still not "pluralistic/bipartisan" enough. That's their whole deal: it will never be enough.
I wouldn't say they're slip ups, they made a very deliberate push to APPEAR less partisan at the cost accurate portrayal of events. Even the titles have gotten a bit on the click bait side.
I still consider CBC to be the best large scale news source in Canada and generally decent. But there's some serious issues brewing.
CBC has nerfed itself because it cares more about it's budget than the integrity of the news. Same thing happened to NPR and now it's just gardening shows.
The budget needs to be hard lined and indexed, not under control of any political party. As it stands in 2025, it's watered down timid garbage and the good journos have left or been fired. When Poilievre had a 30 point lead (LOL), they kissed his ass twice a week.
"If" is incredibly optimistic lol.
