The post-Reagan GOP has only ever been about more government, more police, more fascism. She's fallen for the classic blunder of assuming that fascists ever argue in good faith. They don't give a shit that they talk about being the party of small government and yet can't wait to use techno-feudalism to make sure that gay people aren't secretly having sex. They're not arguing for small government in good faith and never have done.

Becca is 100% correct.

Current political stage is more left vs right, progressive vs conservative, woke vs antiwoke. Russia is ally of conservatives, because their politics are far right conservative.

[–] thepresentpast@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

That's not quite right. Russia is not conservative in the American sense of the term, although they are far right in terms of authoritarian rule. They're an oligarchy. But their 10-year psy-op against American conservatives has been incredibly successful. They are up to their eyeballs in Russian conditioning and behavioral modification.

It's actually incredibly impressive. Turns out that Russia won the Cold War, and their greatest former adversaries (American conservatives) ended up being the United States' weakest link at the end of the game. Endlessly fascinating stuff.

Lady, the states have always supported dictators that were friendly to them (often because they were installed BY the USA, like Fulgencion Batista, Manuel Noriega, Augusto Pinochet, to name a few)

"waa waa trump is a russian puppet"

Karma sure is a bitch, huh? Enjoy.

[–] wowwoweowza@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

I upvoted this comment, but schadenfreude isn’t a good look anywhere.

[–] PotatoLibre@feddit.it 15 points 17 hours ago

TBO US supported dictators before, Pinochet, Marcos, Saddam, Suharto, Batista and others.

This is the first time for a major land. Still scary and absurd tough.

Why are Vermont reps so based??? Isn't Bernie also from there?

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Democrat stronghold. No worries about Republicans picking up seats.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 14 points 15 hours ago

Vermont is awesome, we’re planning to move there once our family situation changes, but it may be a few more years of caretaking before we can. In the mean time we’re trying to keep the state we’re in at least purple as long as possible.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 156 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If Republicans could feel shame I’m sure they’d be very upset

[–] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 14 points 21 hours ago

But not upset with themselves, upset that society hadn't lowered the bar far enough for them to not feel shame for their actions.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anyone with integrity, morals, or even a backbone was pushed out many years ago.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My grandfather, who took a pistol off a dead Nazi doctor in the 14th Armored Division, quit the Republican Party when they had those Purple Heart Band Aids.

I guess if you get one after waking up under the body of your dead friend you don’t get the joke.

[–] jabeez@lemmy.today 11 points 17 hours ago

Yeah, that was when the myth of the "liberal" media should have been permanently put down, along with the GOP, but nah, the MSM dutifully "both sides" it and so many (most?) veterans had zero problem with it. That was when the (D) party should have had its real 'Houston, we have a problem' moment, and started fighting the metastasizing problem of right-wing/fascist propaganda that gets merely parroted by the rest of the MSM, but alas, they did fuck-all while it just got worse and worse and worse.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The bare minimum, that's all people want. Show a fucking backbone and rage!!!!!

[–] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I dunno, as a non-empty subset of "people", I want more than rage. I want action. Spare me your tears, spare me your anguish, spare me your irascible outcry. Arrest the people breaking federal laws every single day, and if no action is taken by those who have abdicated their duty, ensure they abdicate their posts, through main force if necessary.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 hours ago

Showing life would be a start. Instead we get this....

[–] YoiksAndAway@lemmy.zip 87 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And all it took for Republicans to get on board was the threat of primaries funded by Trump's multi-billionaire buddy.

[–] NJSpradlin@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I mean, that’s all we know in the open. I seriously doubt there weren’t background threats and bribes.

Why the fuck are they waiting until after he came into office to hammer home the Russian ties and really bring it to the forefront?

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

They've literally been saying this shit for 10 years, it just doesn't make it into the algorithms during election season.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's literally a quote from his debate vs Hillary.

[–] asteriskeverything@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

That's find but I mean why does it pop up in the news after it is too late? I certainly noticed a LOT more press and comments about it in recent weeks. It is really fucking weird and infuriating.

That’s my rep! Glad that the little State of Vermont has sane representatives in both chambers of congress.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm wondering what the hell is going on in Vermont, and can you guys ship it to the rest of the country?

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Democratic stronghold. No need to moderate for Republican voters because they're irrelevant.
