Ticker Carlson was having sexy Rule 34 thoughts again

When you find yourself on the other side from Big Bird, Mr. Rogers, and Captain America, you need to do some serious reevaluation.

[–] mister_flibble@lemm.ee 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I hope Sesame Street just goes all in, owns this, and has Bert and Ernie get married already. They haven't done a wedding since Maria and Luis in the 80s and we all know those two are banging.

A reminder that Fox News was/is actively against Mister Rogers and everything he stood for.

I mean, he probably was if we go by what he supposedly stood for. But actually tending to that dichotomy with their shitty world view tends to break their brains.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, he was.

But they don't like that. They want Viking Jesus.

[–] Evkob@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago

Jesus of Nazareth was a loser, American evangelicals worship the true Lord, Supply-side Jesus!

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 33 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

With the news of younger generations (around the world even) aligning themselves with right wing thinking, I wouldn't be surprised if these icons aren't all labeled as some kind of wimps. To be dunked on all day without really knowing what they're talking about let alone a solution for the things these programs tackled. And, they're letting the worst people destroy it all (some of them are literal rapists)!

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

That's exactly what's happened. Right Wing grifters on YouTube, like Shapiro, Walsh, Crowder, Rogan, etc., aren't a coincidence, and didn't happen naturally. They were all corrupted by billionaire funded "Think Tanks."

[–] Parsizzle@lemm.ee -5 points 22 hours ago (4 children)

Wasn't Mr. Roger's a green beret in Vietnam though? Wouldn't these people idolize that aspect of him?

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 25 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently that's a debunked myth. Besides, he was born in 1928 which would have made him old for that war.

None of these things would matter though. A common thread simply seems to be a hatred toward empathy and those who espouse it. These were kind people and worthy causes. Primed to be destroy by these goons.

[–] Parsizzle@lemm.ee 12 points 21 hours ago

Oh gotcha! Your comment made me realize I had Mr. Roger's confused with Bob Ross anyway, and was still wrong 😅. Thanks for clearing it up!

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

He registered for the draft just after WW2, then after a physical was deemed unqualified for service. He graduated college a few years later.

From the start of Vietnam to the end, he was working on a children's show in Pittsburgh, making a show up in Canada that was the precursor to mister Rogers neighborhood, then from 1968 for the next 33 years he was in/running mists Rogers neighborhood.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 2 points 20 hours ago

...he did emerge victorious from the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny, though...

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 0 points 20 hours ago

No, he wasn't. That's an urban myth.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 14 points 22 hours ago

Oh they're very happy with where they stand.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

They want future generations of peasants illiterate, and ignorant.

[–] mostNONheinous@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Bet we hear not a single peep from the “ Don’t cancel my Dr Seuss books” crowd.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

You just don't see it in mainstream media, because it's owned by billionaires.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

When will people learn that they don’t care and have no shame.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 41 points 20 hours ago

An official Whitehouse.gov page came up on my news feed for some reason saying how it's a grift they won't tolerate any longer.

I reported it as misinformation and hate speech.

Counter argument, Fred Rogers

While I don't think the majority of their funding comes from the government, it's still an important contribution.

Viewers like you, time to shine: https://www.npr.org/donations/support

Edit: As with last time, putting my money where my mouth is, but ongoing this time. Also figured my local station needed the money more than the NPR network.

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 30 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Viewers…like ME?!?!

[–] ImInLoveWithLife@lemm.ee 12 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

I've made monthly contributions to WVPB for almost ten years now!

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 8 points 22 hours ago

Nice! I've done one-offs for like $60/each every so often but finally just set it to recurring. May bump it up at some point, though.

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

My local NPR station was saying 8% in their most recent funding campaign.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

The percentage varies among local stations. In Santa Monica there's probably more local support than in an Oklahoma town.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

Won't matter, they'll just have the FCC revoke the broadcast licenses after a while.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 22 hours ago

In all sincerity, please, the doomerism is unproductive. Especially in direct response to someone trying to help fund a public institution that’s losing funding. If you’re feeling despair from the horrors (which, understandable) it’s important to do what you can to get support from your friends and community. Trying to convince other people to not resist by saying it’s worthless is the worst thing to do right now.

[–] bassomitron@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago

Way to contribute productive discourse to the comment actually doing something and proving they put their money where their mouth is.

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Gotta love how easy it is to do this while it’s so fucking hard to preserve integrity…and there is very much a fuck you in there as it needs to be…

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago

"Peasants who can read and write can communicate over far distances, and organize resistance. This is a threat to our sovereignty. God bless 'Murica."

[–] commander@lemmy.world 26 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Quick search shows me NPR at 1% from federal government and PBS 13%

https://www.npr.org/about-npr/178660742/public-radio-finances

https://www.ninepbs.org/blogs/news/did-you-know-nine-pbs-federal-funding/

So if possible for anyone, it may be good to make financial contributions to PBS. Doesn't have to be recurring

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 14 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

If this goes through, public broadcasting is going to get FLOODED with donations from viewers like you.

[–] commander@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Everyone should also download the PBS app and subscribe to PBS YouTube channels like PBS Terra That would at least help them financially indirectly. At least help them with exposure in the modern media distribution environment

Joke's on Donold -- they're funded by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

[–] cyphear@lemm.ee 8 points 21 hours ago

And viewers like you!

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Well, at least they're asking

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Heh, well, what happens to Republicans who speak out against the idea?

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago
[–] Drusas@fedia.io 7 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Wouldn't't want anyone to be informed.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

No, no. Wouldn't want anyone to be informed by media not controlled by the billionaire class. They're perfectly fine with Fox, Twitter, and other misinformation sources that they benefit from.

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Me Rodgers, we need you more than ever

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Only way I'd ever be proud to be American is if science brought him back to life and he became president.

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 0 points 12 hours ago

I am proud of being American. I'm not proud of our countries actions, but we WILL end up with these guys jailed. It will happen
