I'm gonna guess this sort of thing is more the rule than the exception. The goal isn't to deport actual gang members, it's to signal a tough-on-illegal-immigration policy without the challenge that comes with actually deporting people who aren't trying to be found. So they just deport law abiding people who are easier to find because the reality doesn't matter.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 10 points 3 hours ago

The illegal part seems to be optional in some cases, based on skin tone.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 6 points 7 hours ago

also dont want to scare off too many "illegal immigrants" that are being employed by red states that sustains thier economy too.

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 45 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Can somebody shoot the ICE agents already? Your stupid guns are all show. No difference whether you have any at all...

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I’ve personally heard a few people say that’s exactly their plan. It’s basically “I’m a citizen but I’m brown so I’m fucked either way. I might as well make em work for it since the end result for me will be the same regardless. If I’m gonna get taken down, I might as well make it worth it. Why wait to die in an El Salvadorian prison, when I can go out where it’ll at least make some headlines?”

Again, I have heard several people say things like this individually. I fully believe it’ll happen eventually, as soon as they try to stop the wrong person.

The problem is that the wrong people have guns in the US. Most of the left ignorantly believes that they can get by without, when half the country is armed and is practically begging their god emperor to say the word.

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Most people left-of-center in the US are too afraid to touch a gun. Meanwhile the far-right collect guns like trophies.

Guns mean nothing if the "good guys" continue having their fantasy of non-violence.

Edit: And while there might be individuals left-of-center who do have guns, it doesn't acomplish anything unless we have a lot of them also collectively take up arms to defend against tyranny, as in an organized militia.

There are currently more right-wing militias than any left-wing ones.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Most people left-of-center in the US are too afraid to touch a gun.

The number of left of center people in the gun license course I took last year indicate that that may be changing.

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Even with increasing gun control in Canada many Canadians are wanting to get armed. Also many Canadians disagree with thr brazen and sweeping bans on so many rifles.

[–] Fillicia@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

And many Canadians are still for the ban and against civilians arming themselves. We are not the US, we are one of the safest place on earth. If people want to defend the country against outside threat then they should join the army where they'll have a bigger impact.

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Many still are, but increasing numbers aren't. I am Canadian.

[–] Fillicia@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

So am I, any stats support your increasing numbers?

In 2020 a large majority was for the ban, I would love to see numbers showing a complete 180 on the matter

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 58 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Well Trump essentially made it official yesterday that even if someone is imprisoned by mistake it will not be reversed

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 35 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

And if you are someone he doesn't like, for your views, your skin color, your accent, your sexual orientation, your gender, your education, your occupation, your ethnicity, the way you look at him, or how you don't fawn over him enough or fall behind with your protection payments, he'll have you "accidentally" kidnapped and imprisoned for life or until the Salvadoran authorities decide you're a waste of resources and kill you.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 17 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (2 children)

Bottom line: if you weren't born here, you're getting thrown out, and NOTHING will stop them, including a Green Card or Naturalization.

Eventually, it won't even matter if you were born here, and are a full natural American-born citizen, from generations of American-born citizens. If they don't like you, you're gone.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 20 points 8 hours ago

They're already admiting they are targeting US citizens.

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 10 points 10 hours ago

This is why he's selling those dipshit citizenship gold Visa's. He gets your money and he'll still just send you to El Salvador.

Of course, realize that being a natural born us citizen isn't going to stop them at some point. When they have eliminated whomever they deem a problem, it won't be missing accomplished, it will just be time to modify the parameters of who a problem person is

[–] boughtmysoul@lemmy.world 36 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Both the American and El Salvadoran heads of state have stated that neither is able to return people sent from the US to CECOT.

In other words, this man will die in CECOT.

[–] TON618@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Trump has the "excuse" of having to depend on El Salvador for this but there's no way Bukele has no control over their prison system. This is the same guy that had the weight to "sanitize" El Salvador of criminals, i'm sure there's nothing within El Salvador's borders this guy can't control.

In other words, this man will die in CECOT.

This guy is likely already dead, which would also be the only somewhat logical explanation as to why Nayib can't return him.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 1 points 39 minutes ago

That entire phone call was probably the two of them laughing at people who asked to take people out.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 11 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

That sends a chill down my spine. If neither heads of state can return the people, that can only mean that they're already dead.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We might already be in the "death camps" phase of fascism.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 1 points 46 minutes ago

There is no "might" about it. Organize. Arm. Resist.

[–] KamikazeRusher@lemm.ee 84 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

According to the original article, he was here legally waiting until their court date in 2027 to see a judge. He is not a US citizen, but he also is not an “illegal alien.”

No alleged history of crime. No crime in process when detained. Was following the immigration process.

If anyone wants to argue with you about others who have been detained and deported as being “criminals” or “illegals,” this should be evidence to the fact that it isn’t true and ICE doesn’t care. We’re in the slippery slope now.

[–] Grimtuck@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

He should have got the Gold card instead of the Green card, they are the only immigrants safe from deportation now and it'll cost you $5m for that peace of mind.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 19 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

There's no slope. We're at the ''you didn't stop this when it was stoppable''

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

It’s going to be stopped when people stop whining on Internet forums and do something

[–] SpacetimeMachine@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Now? We're damn near the bottom of the mountain at this point.

[–] kooks_only@lemmy.ca 13 points 11 hours ago

I really fear that this is just the beginning of much worse things to come.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 260 points 21 hours ago (13 children)

Looks like if you re approached by ICE, you need to assume it's a kidnapping.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 20 points 14 hours ago

Indeed, do not cooperate and fight back. They are NOT a legal authority. If they have a uniformed officer with them (state or city), demand the officer arrest you instead. It MAY be worth it to cause a scuffle and get arrested for assault, which could be dropped as self defense. I'm not a lawyer though, just my opinion. You have to fight these assholes. Get the low level pukes into court and tied up fighting charges. Make them scared to do their master's bidding.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 174 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

And being sent to El Salvador is a death sentence. I would act in self-defense appropriately.

No gang ties, no criminal history, not even from that country.

We are the baddies.
