JD Vance attempted a charm offensive on Tuesday, and failed with the charm while succeeding in being offensive.

It happened during an announcement that former Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, would be leading a task force for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.

Rather than stoke excitement for a global event that could be a tourism cash cow for North America, Vance decided to take a different approach — and joked about deporting the potential thousands of tourists visiting the U.S. for the occasion.

How funny will it be when all of the seats are empty? Americans don't care about soccer, this event will be funded by tourism and now those folks will be opting out. If I were planning this event I'd be livid. Vance, shut your stupid fucking mouth and never speak again as long as you live.

If you go to this you’re a fucking idiot. Not worth being sent to an El Salvador concentration camp just to watch a soccer match. Just watch it on tv.

[–] Zacpod@lemmy.world 16 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

People went to Qatar to sit in slave-built stadiums. Don't expect any morals from FIFA fans.

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

No morals, but maybe self preservation isn't too much to expect.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 21 points 15 hours ago

If you support fifa in any way, you’re an idiot. I don’t have much hope that anybody will change their behavior.

[–] Sirdubdee@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Didn’t the Nazis host the Olympics? Why does history rhyme?

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 4 points 10 hours ago

Yeah, and lots of non arians kicked their ass. It was beautiful

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

The stadium is still in use and home to Hertha Berlin.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Just Dumb does not joke around.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 33 points 16 hours ago

I know FIFA is corrupt but does anyone not see how dangerous traveling to the United States currently is?

[–] Binky@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Because what we really want from our government officials is more laughing at the pain and suffering of others.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 13 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

that, and to chill anyone that MIGHT come to America for the American games out of coming to America for the American games and ensure America doesnt get any of that sweet tourism money.

5 bucks says Mexico and Canada's stadiums are full, while Americas stadiums are maybe..lets be generous and say 1/3rd full, and I'd wager most of that would be from super low cost tickets in desperation to get people in the seats so it doesnt look completely empty during broadcast.

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 21 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

God, these guys are tonedeaf.

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

Honestly I don't think they are. They literally decided they were fine with committing treason, and their overall plan is probably similar to the bullshit great replacement theory they push. Except that they are literally selling the country out from under us, and will eventually start having ANYONE deported if they aren't a cooperative slave, or part of the plan. As Americans disappear, I guarantee that more Russians and saudis will come into the country.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 12 points 16 hours ago

God I h8 this man and all of the gop goons. It blows my mind that I’m 2 years older than couch fucker. Yet my mindset is a complete 180° compared to him.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 68 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Haha human rights violations are hilarious

This guy can't even pretend to be a normal person.

tourists will be homebrewn, dont worry

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fortunately, if this shit keeps up, there are two other countries where to celebrate matches. Mexico is shaping up nicely for the World Cup, and tourism comes natural to our culture.

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 30 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That its being co hosted will backfire on the US. If it was just the US and nobody turned up they can and will blame football for that rather than their own idiocy, but because Mexico and Canada are also hosting matches if they get great attendance then its clearly an issue with the US.

If you want to go, go to the matches in Mexico or Canada, spend your money there.

[–] Witziger_Waschbaer@feddit.org 10 points 20 hours ago

Haha nope, they will of course blame Mexico and Canada in that case. Or the people who prefer to go there. I think they are completely immune to any thought about the consequences of their own actions.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

This is why tech bros make horrible politicians.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Did you just call JD Vance a tech bro?! Lol

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

He is Peter Thiel's puppet, so they're not really off the mark.

As long as MAGA policies and the walking farts responsible for them are in place/in charge, I will never again set foot on US soil. There are plenty of other places to visit.

Most of the matches are in red or previous swing states, Washington is the only actually blue state on the roster, this would just be more hurting their own

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

Reminder that every time they say something that causes offense they say it was just a joke.

Narrator: it was not a joke

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 14 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Treating all foreigners as criminals is something he's so excited about, he just can't keep quiet about it. There probably are some people dumb enough to go to that country just to watch some sports, but they aren't going to have a good time.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 15 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

And they wonder why tourism is decreasing

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 17 hours ago

it's not decreasing, it's gone.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 7 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I guess I'm more risk adverse than most because I was pretty stunned to last see the decline is only single digit % still globally besides Canada.

[–] hexonxonx@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

That's because overseas vacationers to the US buy their tickets many months ahead of time for deeper discounts and to make sure they can get a hotel room. Give it a couple more months...

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Were a few months out for the other shoe to drop on a lot of this shit. Ships take a long time to get places, once the last ones are done with their routes, they wont be coming back. Retailers have stockpiles and wearhouses for things, but those only last so long.

I expect to really start noticing thing to be out of stock by mid-late summer and expect the 2025 holiday season to be a consumerist bloodbath (pay attention to Spirit Haloween, they grow on the corpses of other businesses and their unexpired building leases, if they dont show up, thats an indication that shits gotten real)

[–] CatSuperVillain@lemm.ee 6 points 17 hours ago

It’s sad to see the numbers that low but I think that percentage will continue to climb. I would think a lot of the visitors have planned out these trips quite a while ago and may not be able to change or refund them. Going forward, I would think the number of tourists willing to go to the US will decline.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 105 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (11 children)

Dear Foreigner,

If you are coming to the US for the world cup you are fucking stupid. You're going to spend thousands of your preferred currency to get harassed by Customs and if you fuck up and get arrested for whatever little thing the police that stops you has up his ass that day you run the risk of ending up in South America or Africa but not the part you are from, in a jail somewhere getting fucked.

Unless you are white, if you're white come on over, have a beer. Remember, though, even if you are Spanish, Italian, Greek, or any of those other darkies you gay commie Europeans call white, you are going to get lumped in with the Mexicans, especially if you speak Mexican or eye tie.

Fuck you, countries full,

XOXO JD 😘 🛋😘 Vance XOXO

Look everyone knows Germany is just full of immigrants and Muslims so of course they got stopped especially those that come and go from Mexico. Nothing but illegals and fentanyl come out of Mexico.

[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

People willingly went to Qatar for the World Cup. Sports fans are fucking dumb and/or don't give a shit about anything as long as they can see their team play and win. And for those that don't know or forgot, Qatar killed thousands of workers violating human rights and basic safety when building all their stadiums.

haha so funny, much laughing as our tourism industry tanks

these absolute abject cretins, fucking beyond a disgrace they are ‘leading’ this country

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 6 points 13 hours ago

They represent who we are. Either fully mask off shitty people or lazy AF who don't care. This is America until we prove otherwise.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Anyone who is mad enough to visit the US for attending a sports game in this day and age almost deserves that treatment. Like, are you ok?
