They're gonna be mad when a district judge tells them its unconstitutional.

[–] Gumbyyy@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Nah, that's exactly what they want, so they can then appeal to the ultra conservative Supreme Court

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I don’t like to kink shame, but it’s obviously very important for the authoritarian right to repeatedly state the rules that they will be breaking in private.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 16 hours ago

Private? They break them openly, in front of everyone.

Ironically if these “Christians” actually followed the 10 commandments we wouldn’t be in half the mess we’re in.

  • You shall have no other gods before me: Trump
  • You shall not make idols: Trump literally made a goat with his face on it
  • You shall not murder: Palestinians
  • You shall not commit adultery: Hegseth amongst others
  • You shall not steal: the land from the Palestinians
  • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor: MAGA creating lies like “they’re eating the cats and dogs” to justify their racism
[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Thou shall not kill. Umm, y'all have the death penalty.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)
  • you shall not commit adultery

And you give hegseth as an example? Why not use "pornstar fucker while your wife is pregnant and then pay her off with a lot of money to keep quiet during elections" trump?

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Fun fact,

Adultery meant " to break a covenant bond'.

Doesn't just apply to marriage. No preacher will tell you that though. They don't wanna explain their actions

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

I didn't know about that goat, but I do remember this monstrosity from cpac.

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The Satanic Temple should have their tenets displayed then.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Alternatively the people who support this should have to explain to kindergarteners what adultery is.

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I was raised in the Assemblies of God, and I'm fairly sure that I knew an age-appropriate definition of adultery by kindergarten. Something along the lines of "breaking your marriage vows by being in a romantic relationship with another person."

I definitely knew the actual definition of abortion by kindergarten because my church had fucked-up priorities.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago

Kids are going to ask what “breaking your marriage vows” means. Trust me, this conversation is awkward IRL with family. It would be excruciating for most with unrelated kids.

[–] hogmomma@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which, incidentally, are all phrases in the positive.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The point of the ~~religion~~ satanic temple is to protest forced religion. It's positive from top to bottom.

[–] hogmomma@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which religion are you referring to?

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The Mission Of The Satanic Temple Is To Encourage Benevolence And Empathy, Reject Tyrannical Authority, Advocate Practical Common Sense, Oppose Injustice, And Undertake Noble Pursuits.

Y'know what, TIL. I'd always thought they were more of a political entity that operated under an antagonistic (to some) name. Come to find out, though, through the magic of THE INTERNET, that they are a non-theistic new religious movement.

[–] LilB0kChoy@midwest.social 6 points 1 day ago

If you want a religion that isn't a religion you can join me in secular humanism.

Also, kudos to you for admitting an honest mistake.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 4 points 2 days ago

I would guess christian non-sense. Next they will tell me to stop worshipping the flying spaghetti monster.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's confusing since they hold "congregation"

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Maybe one day they'll actually start following them.

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 days ago

Illegal and there is precedent for it. Roy Moore once tried to have the ten commandments displayed on courthouse property.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I swear I've never seen a governor who blows more of his people's money then Greg Abbott. Just constantly lighting piles of cash on fire.

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just constantly lighting piles of cash on fire.

As a Texan I beg to differ, it’s a very efficient transfer of wealth showing the best of ingenuity

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From random taxpayers to lawyers?

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Ha.. no, although I’m sure some law firms are making bank on this.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I showed my kids the Ten Commandments vs. The 7 fundy tenets.

They agree. 7 tenets > Ten Commandments.

I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

V Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Nazis keep your trash out of public spaces.

Just cover it with a pride flag.

The "10 things I hate about you" list from the Torah?

[–] Rabidranger@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just display them in thier original Hebrew.

[–] Airowird@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In Islamic, as Abraham's God intended (according to the Quran)

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In “Islamic”? Do you mean Classical Arabic?

[–] Airowird@lemm.ee 2 points 19 hours ago

I did mean Arabic. Guess my brain wasn't fully braining. But I'll leave it as that, because to the pearl-clutchers, it's the same anyway.
