✨Radiobutt✨

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago

Radiohead is itself taken from a Talking Heads song, so you're probably good.

no, OP, you can't name your band Coldplay

Radiohead 2: Electric Weeaboo

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That reminds me of when I went to see Gallagher Too. My mom thought she had bought tickets to see Gallagher, but it was in a tiny comedy club in New Jersey. The guy did Gallagher's act, and we had fun, and we bought shirts he signed after the show. "Ron Gallagher" was his signature.

We later learned it was Gallagher's brother, who was later sued to stop the impersonation act.

[–] Nanook@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well screw his brother. Vote Ron!

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

His brother, the famous one, Leo Gallagher died in 2022. Piecing together the story from various interviews, it seems like Ron initially had Leo's blessing to do some of the act, and had even had Ron replace him on occasion to see the act from the audience, but Ron took it too far from tribute towards deception. There was nothing in his act that indicated he wasn't the Gallagher, and it wasn't until after the show that I was able to convince my mom that we were duped.

This was the late 90s, early internet days, and in 2002 Leo won the lawsuit that prohibited Ron from doing the sledge-o-matic routine or using deceptive advertising that might fool people into thinking Ron was Leo. Ron retired from entertainment after that.

It's a shame, because Ron did the act really well, and had a bit more edge to his routine. It had a chaotic energy that worked really well in a small club, and I can't imagine seeing the famous Gallagher in a giant stadium would be as much fun. But I completely understand Leo not wanting his brother to tarnish the brand, or engage in deception. After the show, I found a few boards where people had posted about Ron's act, saying that they felt cheated and warning others not to buy tickets to his shows.

Yeah totally understand. My comment was tongue in cheek.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think I knew that. My comment was untreated ADHD. Sorry.

[–] Nanook@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Ha no sorry. What did you do wrong? Big hug

[–] KnightontheSun@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well, we couldn't vote for Leo (even if alive) as he was a right-wing nutjob.

I saw him (at least I remember it being him) way back in the 90's. It was a fun show and half of it was watching the front rows getting spattered with melon.

Would be hilarious to name a band Radiohead 2 and outsell actual Radiohead. I think I'll do that.

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I'll make Radiohead 3 to outsell you!

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'll make radiohead 5 so people are confused why radiohead 4 is no where to be found.

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

And I'll make Radiohead 4 just to annoy you.

Radioheadshoulderskneesandtoes - classic kids songs in the style of Radiohead

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What about Videokilledtheradiohead

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I remember a few bands that were "killed" by their "ugliness on video" (such as with Fastball). Yet Thom York got that messed up eye and is perfectly fine in videos.

What if you were a famous musician called Ray Dio and people who enjoy your work are Ray Dio heads

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I've always wanted to start a band named Better Than Better Than Ezra

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 6 days ago

You could start small with Less Than Less Than Jake.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

On Par With Ezra
Approximately Ezra
Ostensibly Ezra

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Congruent to Ezra?

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You won't be killed in the name, that's a different band

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

And now you do what they tell ya

[–] jaaake@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I mean, Eagles Of Death Metal are a band.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Radiohead likely has a trademark on Radiohead. This means you can't have a name that would likely confuse consumers looking for music by Radiohead. You could start a bathroom installation company named Radiohead because people wouldn't confuse bathroom installation and music (as an example). I personally think Radiohead and Radiohead 2 would be confusing, but we'd have to see what the courts would say. Most likely is, unless you have a ton of money for lawyers to pursue it the legal fees would do you in or you'd lose defending yourself. Even then, would you be willing to spend that much to be able to use Radiohead 2?

[–] silasmariner@programming.dev 2 points 6 days ago

Talking heads got there first tho'

[–] kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Duran Duran Duran exists

[–] germtm_@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

they already did it.

it's called The Smile.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 2 points 1 week ago

I hear the leftovers from Radiohead started their own group, called "The Deadweight."

(Kidding! Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway are amazing.)

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 5 points 1 week ago

Oh, double post but I also remembered there was a band in the mid 2010s called Jawbreaker Reunion. I imagine a lot of fans of Jawbreaker did a double take when they saw signs for like "Jawbreaker Reunion tonight!"

Alexa, play music by radeohed.

"OK. This is big plastic trees by radeohed."

Did The Who sue The Guess Who?

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

damn, that’s a long name

radiohead 2 am i going to get sued or killed if i use this name

reminds me of the album title

When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king what he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight and he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring there's no body to batter when your mind is your might so when you go solo, you hold your own hand And remember that depth is the greatest of heights and if you know where you stand, then you know where to land and if you fall it won't matter, cuz you'll know that you're right

Wtphtchtlakwhkthbwhgthfahwthtfhetrtnbtbwymiymswygsyhyohartditgohaiykwystykwtlaiyfiwmcyktyr for short.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 3 points 1 week ago

Thom Yorke will slit your throat.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 week ago

I'm told the band No Men were originally going to call themselves Aerosmith 2, but decided against it

Radioheads would work.

Call yourself: "A band that isn't Radiohead"

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Probably not killed, but you might be sued by XL Recordings and Radiohead.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What if it's called not radiohead. Hust to make it clear?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago

"And give a big round of applause for Please Don't Sue Us, Radiohead!"
