I know a couple wheelchair users who would send it. There are guys here in medellin that ride their wheelchairs in the skate parks.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 56 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I wonder how those guys ended up in wheelchairs.

There must be one who were always more risky but I have heard some change after an accident and think, well what could go wrong now, might as well go for it

"What's the worst that happens, I break a leg?"

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I would love to see that, is competitive wheelchair skateboarding a thing? Because I'd watch the shit out of that!

[–] teft@lemmy.world 43 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's a thing. It's called WCMX like BMX but wheelchair instead of bike.

Found a video. Legit looks pretty sick. I just can't help but think that the tech still looks pretty primitive, and wonder what future iterations of these chairs will look like.

The chairs are essentially full suspension bmx frames and wheels in the form of a wheel chair. They’re legit.

Fuck, that's amazing! That guy is pretty impressive.

TÜV sagt nein.

Ramps in public areas must always be designed in accordance with DIN 18040-1 with a maximum gradient of 6% and without a transverse gradient!

  • Longitudinal gradient: max.6%
  • Transverse gradient: 0
  • Clear width: min.1.20m
  • Length of ramp run: max.6.00m
  • Length of intermediate landing: min.1.50m

6% gradient, 100% gradient, what's the difference really

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Everything is relative anyway. Just choose a different plane of reference and you're good to go!

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

That’s a manufacturer’s opinion

When its wet like this it would serve as a great slide. Just take some plastic sheet or something and down you go :)

And wear your plate mail underpants, lest you learn the true meaning of splinters.

Where's that bottom step going though?

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If you check where the handrail supports are each step with one extends out and supports the beams

Put a winch at the top and this could work..

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 3 days ago

...along with another person to operate the winch, coordination/communication, and a special harness to make sure the wheelchair occupant does not tip backwards or start skewing left or right mid-flight... and maybe some special insurance.

BRB, launching a disabled person across the carpark.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

The stair looks more dangerous tho.

if they added a handrail it would probably be usable
