It doesn't seem to relate to the rest of your comment though.. They were an antislavery, pro Lincoln group? What was the internationally dumb part?
My point was that the term has been used forever to be a mocking insult to the right, the dumb part is that it's a intentionally childish insult. We're awake while you're still sleeping, naner naner boo boo or whatever. But yeah they seem like they could be fun cats to some extent or another.
Well.. That still seems cool to me.

Someone like him could have actually beat Trump. We need populists like Burr, who look and sound like Burr. The time for policy wonks and career politicians may just be over. The age of Brawndo is dawning.
Bill would never run for office. He knows what he is and he knows he's a comedian. This man's sole goal in life is to tell people to fuck off for all the right reasons. Its good enough that he's our sweet little curmudgeon.
He's my all-time favorite comedian. I cannot imagine anything these assholes could say that would get under his skin. "Eh. Go fuck yaself!"
And they're feeding him material! To paraphrase an old one:
"The question Republicans should be asking yourself is, we're so goddamn smart, how are we in the situation we're in?"
I think the US now needs significantly more people like Burr, who refuse to be intimidated by this regime and all their henchmen, even though they must expect immediate retaliation.
If more people don't speak up and organize, there will soon be no way to voice criticism, because then dissidents - even US citizens - will disappear unheard, as is the case in other dictatorships.
CNN will attempt to defend itself. Fox will wear it like a badge of honor.
