Pritzker said the Trump administration has begun staging the Texas National Guard for deployment in Illinois.

So he's not gonna try to nationalize Illinois' Guard, he's gonna use the Texas guard and deploy it to Illinois? That seems all sorts of wrong. It makes it more like an invading force....

I wonder if Pritzker has the balls to deploy the Illinois National Guard to prevent them from entering?

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 37 points 1 month ago

It's a lot easier to shoot people who you don't identify as your fellow churchgoers and friendly neighbors especially when they demonize blue cities to subhuman levels for at least the last 40 years.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, the Roman military used to do the same. Lots of places they conquered, they'd recruit soldiers. But they'd always deploy those units in other places. Turns out, it's easier to brutalise people who aren't your neighbours.

The Chinese and Soviets did it all the time as well. Very common tactic to control resistance.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 27 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That would be an actual act of rebellion and kick off an incredibly destructive war. He's far more likely to encourage nonviolent resistance and to try and get guardsmen from Texas to defect

[–] grue@lemmy.world 48 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Let's be very fucking clear about this: Pritzker deploying the Illinois national guard would be an entirely justified and very legal act of defense. Trump attacking the state using the Texas guard is the act of war.

Justifiable absolutely. But justification doesn't win wars or stop death.

Or maybe deploy Illinois guard 1:1 for every Texas Guard member they send. Put body cams on all of them, too, streaming live....

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

deploying your military on your own population is one of the last things you want to do as a commander

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"No units have been activated and we do not have an order or preparatory command for any mission," deputy director of public affairs for Illinois National Guard William Grove tells Axios.

Saw this from 3 hours ago, looking like that's not planned.

Civil war lets go!

(I don’t like war, just in case that it was not clear)

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Most of us do. Still kinda seems like it's where we're headed though

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

They'll just help the texans.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Time for California to invade Texas while they are gone.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 1 month ago

I think the Illinois guard will be busy invading the White House..

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 52 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Lotta great sub sandwich places in Chicago

[–] dmention7@midwest.social 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jesus man, if you're going to post shit like that, at least hide it behind a spoiler tag with a graphic violence warning or something like that. That poor cop's family might be browsing.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Be careful or you may be charged on a count of assault w/ a Deli weapon.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I do not advocate any sandwich violence

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Any action resulting in the loss of a perfectly fine sandwich being used as a weapon as a trajectory shall remain a non factor provided the sandwich is from Subway.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

100% this! Subway, sandwiches? I don’t honestly know what they are. They just taste like The Subway fast food chain. I’ll be barrel tied & hornswoggled but for all the love of Jumpin’ Jack Peters, every sandwich from that outfit tastes the same. I don’t care if it is tuna salad or a roast beef “sandwich”. They. All.Taste. The. Goddamn same.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

The sandwiches do not have a say & I truly believe there are some human rights being abused. These sandwiches want to be savored & enjoyed for people not to be hurled as a projectile to annoy anyone. Sandwiches have rights. #ThrowHotDogs

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago

Fucking hero.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The Texas National Guard is not prepared for the amount of damage that a deep dish pizza can inflict on a human body.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (8 children)

But hey folk, remember to not criticize the us military and national guard for doing this. They are Just Following Orders and doing otherwise could lead to actual consequences for them!

And on a more personal/selfish note: This... puts a bit of a wrench into my plans to visit some friends out in Chicago at the end of the month...

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Letting them continue to do this with no resistance leads to actual consequences for all of us. I don't know what the right answer here is, but it's certainly not to sit idly by and watch it happen.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It is to, bare minimum, villify the military like the strong arm of fascism it is.

If some of those soldiers want to fucking protect the country, they are more than welcome to and we will glaze them to hell and back. But, until they grow a spine, they are monsters and should yearn for the days of the Vietnam War.

If you see jackboots on the street? Berate them. Boarding early for a flight? Ask them how they feel being pawns of ICE. Parked in the military ID spots at the hardware store? Hmm, that looks a lot like a tesla to me...

[–] logi@piefed.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

military ID spots at the hardware store

That's... eh... really weird. America, your problems aren't new.

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As an American, I have never seen Military ID parking spots. Don’t know where that guy is from.

The billionaire wants the poors to stay seated and let it happen...

“It breaks my heart to report we have been told that ICE will try to disrupt community picnics and peaceful parades,” the governor said. “Let’s be clear, the terror and cruelty is the point.”

Pritzker added that the Trump administration may use any pushback to immigration operations as pretext to deploying National Guard troops.

“If someone flings a sandwich at an ICE agent, Trump will try and go on TV and declare an emergency,” he added, while urging Chicagoans to “not take the bait.”

If the state government protected it's citizens, then citizens wouldn't have to do it themselves

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

I want to know when

[–] bstix 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Illinois Nazis? Really?

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 1 month ago
