The Trump administration is canceling millions of dollars' worth of grants to help cities install bike lanes and other infrastructure meant to curb pedestrian deaths because it is allegedly "hostile" to cars.

Congrats, we've done it: cars have more rights than people 🫩

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How can someone be hostile to a car? That's quite a strange brain-knot there

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

I've been known to be hostile to cybertrucks.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

We have not yet begun to be hostile to cars, LOL!

But I suppose as a mod I'd better set a good example re: instance-wide rules, so I should say no more. 😇

100% true motorists can kill non-motorists and get away with little no jail/fines..

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 35 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Pretty much every conservative idea is bad.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

It’s kinda the whole brand. All feelings, all individualism, all being angry when ever anyone identifies a problem and then aggressively fighting it even if it’s actually not that old but you personally remember it from a while back(or think you do). Oh, and if you like something then obviously it’s perfect and you’re definitely not trying to shield yourself from having to admit that your personality is what you own and not who you actually are.

Knee-jerk reactions aren't ideas, any more than sneezes are.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

What did we expect from a man that's never been on bike or had to walk more than two blocks

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You think he's walked two blocks? He stepped on an escalator, and it instantly broke.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Well he and his boys did walk to a restaurant to get protested. I have no idea why he thought it was a good idea to go out to a restaurant in DC.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

At minimum, he's ridden the Lolita Express more times than he's ridden a bike.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Time for guerrilla infrastructure, shall we install tyre spikes?

In the street, but not in the bike lane (where applicable).

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To demonstrate what actual hostility looks like, I guess.

What's always baffling about stuff like this (not specifically this, everyone knows Trump is an idiot) is that they don't realise that whatever is good for pedestrians and bikes is also great for cars. It takes away cars from the road which makes traffic so much better. It makes it easier to provide parking because it doesn't have to be right next to the destination.

[–] Waldelfe@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago

But don't you see, if they just had one more lane available to cars, there would be no traffic jam... It's the same with the Deutschlandticket. Everybody's crying how much tax payer money is used for it instead of being happy that more people stay off the road for a relatively low price.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Also without bike lanes bikes will more likely have to take the lane and drivers just love that.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

They're only thinking of the road-raging obese morons whose body weight is only exceeded by their sense of entitlement. They can barely waddle into Walmart. They hate people who walk or ride bikes.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You guys are living in the enshittification era of the USA.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Trump was put in to sabotage everything that makes people's lives slightly more bearable.

[–] jaredwhite@piefed.social 14 points 1 week ago

Aww, those poor multi-ton metal leviathans are frightened by the scary human-sized two-wheelers. 😢

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 12 points 1 week ago

At this point the only shocking news about the Trump regime would be anyone standing up to him instead of rolling over without even being asked.

[–] xlf42@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago

Well.. Trump doing Trump things. Nothing to see here.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Parking lots are also bad, because they turn lovely cars into horrible, evil pedestrians. From now on, offices will have a space to park Yourself in order to do work for the day.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@midwest.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've been to several amusement parks and festivals that have parking lots so big and unwieldy that they have to have a public transit system to get drivers from and to their cars. Talk about evil!

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ffs just let people drive their minivan onto the coaster rails, so much simpler than swapping vehicles walking on the GROUND

You will sleep in your car, you will work in your car, you will eat in your car. You will pay your monthly payments in the Tesla app. The only entertainment you get is playing Cyberpunk 2077 on your Tesla steeringwheel, and the only social interaction will be with your voice-activated AI girlfriend.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Well, you can also push the button to make the fart sound.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

Will nobody think of the feelings of those poor cars?

[–] veganpizza69@lemmy.vg 4 points 1 week ago

Join the war on cars.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

He needs every cent for the working class, i.e. those people working to stack just another billion into their vaults.

I hope they don't rip up and pave over existing "hostile" infrastructure.

[–] pepperjacques@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Also, ya know that line from Billy Maddison where the secondary teacher that's lusting after Billy reads the note that says he should walk his fatass into oncoming traffic? Great line, fantastic delivery, totally unrelated to this. Just wanted to reference it.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

About time. I hate all the time I waste scraping pedestrians out of my front grill.
