I know someone who fits this perfectly. They are currently Robert. They did not appreciate me sending them that. I do appreciate you posting it. Thank you so much.

Are you talking about Boob .... I mean Bob

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 16 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Robert has the same shit.

Do you keep it formal and stay Robert? Do you embrace your inner old guy and go by Bob? What about Rob or Robb? Maybe you're Robbie, Robby, or Bobby. Maybe you're clinically insane and go by Bobert.

Jimmy when you're a kid, Jim when you get older. Probably James at work for people who don't know you but Jim for those who do.. Jimbo when you're drunk. Jamie after your sex change operation.

You think that shit is hard, consider anyone named "Richard"

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Last night I was talking to my partner about the name “Bart”, like saying “dude imagine fuckin a dude named Bart and you gotta say like ‘oh yeah just like that BART’” and we both cracked up

My partner brought up the full name “Bartholomew” and I said “no fuckin way I’m not going by ‘Mew’” and they cracked up

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

Christ, imagine if you had a friend named Bartholomew as well.

Which one of you is Mewtoo?

[–] BartyDeCanter@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 days ago

Barty in the streets, god in the sheets.

This is why they should just go by their middle name, Tiberius.

I actually know a Jimothy. Couldn’t decide between jimmy and timothy for his western name when coming to the US after the end of Vietnam war

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 4 points 4 days ago

I have a life sized goblin statue in the window of my shop named Jimothy.

I've never heard of "Jamie" being a nickname for James. It makes sense, and maybe I've just missed it all these years? My best friend in the third grade was named Jamie, he's the only one I've known. I've known several guys named James.

Yep, a simple search confirms that "Jamie" is a diminutive form of James. TIL.

I’m a James! The third to be precise. My gramps went by Jack, and my dad by James, so I had to go by Jimmy. I still own it to this day. Other fun nicknames I’m occasionally called are Jimbo, Jymbo, Jambers, Jimboree, Jimbob, JimJam, Jombers, Jimothy, and Jammy. It’s fun having a nickname as the name I go by! Nowhere on my documents does it say “Jimmy” but that’s what everyone calls me.

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 6 points 4 days ago

Jimothy Christmas

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Y'all, this works like a class system. James is your magic user, Jim is an all round fighter, Jimmy is your rogue, Jamie your cleric, and Jimbo is your barbarian. Luckily, they can change classes depending on the situation, so it's not set in stone.

Cuz you can't put em all on your gravestone.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Small enough font? Big enough gravestone?

[–] w3ird_sloth@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Here lies James Jimmy Jimmothy Jamey Jimbo Jarmer. Beloved by all who called him things.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Jimjim and jimbobway are also options

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Never realized Jimmy was a nickname for James.

My personal favorite, James Bolivar DiGriz. The Stainless Steel Rat. That is all.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

There's a reference I haven't heard in a while. I should go back and re-read those, and read the ones I've missed. Great series. Harry Harrison's other sci-fi is pretty great as well.

Charles as well. Charlie, chuck, or Chaz?

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 4 days ago

Go singular - Charl

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

KID DIN-O-MITE

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Or go by their first two initials? eg. J.D.
