Trump is breaking from his “America First” trade agenda and feuding with some of his most loyal supporters in a fight over U.S. beef prices.

Trump has centered his economic agenda on reducing the U.S.’s reliance on cheaper foreign products and boosting domestic production of goods and food. But his plan to boost imports of Argentinian beef while urging American suppliers to lower their prices marks a sharp departure from his platform.

The dispute is threatening Trump’s long-standing support from agriculture groups and workers, who stood by the president during his first term despite the backlash they faced from his trade agenda.

Trump was never 'america first'. It's always been 'me first'

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 19 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Many people are saying this.

[–] Red0ctober@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Big people, strong people, tears poring down their faces

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

Including him.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 33 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Stop buying beef for a few months. Shame them.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hell, switch to Impossible meat permanently.

Fucks with MAGA farmers and drastically lowers cattle based emissions with one stone.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I think I'd rather have fruits and vegetables than impossible beef. To me it tastes worse than beef or vegetables just being their natural selves.

I read that maybe beyond meat does it better, but haven't bothered to try it.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 7 points 4 days ago

Impossible is much better than Beyond when comparing the ground beef replacements. I can't speak to the rest of their lines though.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This. Also, the production of that garbage is also horrible for the environment.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Impossible beef has a lower environmental impact compared to beef, using approximately 96% less land, 87% less water, and generating 89% fewer greenhouse gas emis

This comes from the company itself, so I don't know how accurate it is, but I'm curious as to what makes you say it's horrible for the environment? Raising livestock is one of the biggest environmental impactors we have.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's processed, so it automatically has a higher environmental footprint. /s

if i reach the top of the food chain (like food, not finance or politics. via eating one of everything edible and a few things that aren't) does that give me the environmental footprint of the entire planet?

just wanting to know for bragging rights.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Y'all can afford beef? I haven't bought beef in 4+ years

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

We stopped buying steaks a few years ago, hamburger went this year.

I've stopped eating red meat for years now

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago (2 children)

They're just political cucks still letting Trump fuck their lives.

[–] Sideshow_B00b@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

And, apparently, wives..

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

They should be more like me! I fuck my own life

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

All that matters to him is how he can benefit. That’s it. He has no allegiance to anything or anyone other than himself.

[–] blave@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Also, with everything else he says and does and Thinks

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Oh yeah, and Epstein...

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Is it defying if he was lying about it the whole time?

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 7 points 4 days ago

It is important to point out the hypocrisy, but I do not care about Trump's America First agenda one bit.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

There's some real well-off cattle owners in Argentina I see that beef at a local butchers as well.

Probably doing beef on the side, as an excuse for all the shipping routes.
