In a speech to American troops assembled in Japan on Tuesday, President Trump said he would escalate his orders to active duty branches of the military if he decides it is appropriate.

In short, he is preparing to make war against Americans

He's treating the American people as an enemy. He has declared civil war.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 29 points 22 hours ago

I’m going to say it again. If you are active duty, and you follow these orders, you an enemy of this nation.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 113 points 1 day ago (5 children)

A crime. He's prepared to commit a crime.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

He's prepared to escalate an ongoing crime.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 75 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Is he ever not committing one?

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

I think the president is capable of durations up to seven seconds where he’s not actively committing a crime. However, this measurement and the conclusions it reaches disregards background crimes that are only in progress, and only measures new crimes initiated.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago

He's committed so many crimes, his existence has become illegal

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Only while sleeping, and even then I’m not so sure.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Still a crime against humanity asleep or not.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

He's commited to crime.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago

Not according to the Supreme Court. President is immune from law.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Another crime.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So, more treason?

I'll keep saying it.

Everyone should be arming themselves and everyone they know. Eventually they will try to prevent anyone who registered/voted Democrat from purchasing a firearm. Everyone should be forming networks with like-minded people using only end-to-end encrypted messaging apps. This is not going to stop. This is not going plateau and fizzle out. We're locked in now. It will escalate until we live in a fully authoritarian state or until we do something about it.

Random fact of the day... cap and ball colts are percussion instruments with no federal regulations, unlike "firearms"

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml -5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

So gun registration lists are bad now?

[–] ajoebyanyothername@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Reasonable gun control measures to reduce gun violence, especially in schools vs. blocking any possible dissenters of a fascist regime from defending themselves. I'd say that the latter sounds like a bad idea.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 59 points 1 day ago (4 children)

*with unpaid troops. Yes, I am sure they will be chomping at the bit to obey the orders of a disingenuous master while they scrounge up whatever they can to feed their families.

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago

Maybe they'll encourage plunder like the good old days (the 1300s).

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They got private donors to fund the troops, I believe.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

They received a donation to fund the troops, which paid for a whopping 5 hours of military salaries. The donation was $130 million and the daily cost of military personnel (not including veterans' benefits) is about $600 million.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They got private donors to fund the troops, I believe.

Doesn't that mean they cease to be the US armed forces and are now a private militia? Is that what those troops that signed up for? I don't think so.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

That's the big question isn't it? I don't know the legality behind it, but being paid by someone other than the citizenry is extremely problematic. Taking an oath to the Constitution (that protects the rights of the people) while being paid by an individual, well that starts turning the corner from standing army to being mercenaries.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago

I really have no idea what goes through one's head when they sign up for the US military nowadays, besides it being a rather straightforward career option.

[–] ronigami@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wealth redistribution with extra steps

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I think it's just them realizing that without the military protecting them by threat or actual force, they're liable to be literally on the chopping block. To that end, I will note that the private military contractors have seemingly been disturbingly quiet for having an authoritarian in power.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago

This feels like wishful thinking. To date, only 2 service members are refusing orders. They are national guard women.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No way the Democrats don't cave now that Republicans are denying SNAP.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

I honestly don't know... why would they draw the line at food, and not health care?

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's still gonna need a lot more troops.

The HF is growing more aware of just how badly the numbers are stacked against them.

In time the more people understand this, the easier it will be to hang each and every fascist for their war against humanity.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

from "thoese crazy russians" to "thoese crazy amercians"

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe Governors need to deploy the National Guard to watch the "Texas" Nation Guard.

I really hope the next states to have the "Texas" National Guard deployed have a better plan than lawsuits. Maybe have all National Guard personnel reviewing unlawful orders, or learning to have conflicts so they cannot deploy, or something.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Or just deploy Nat Guard to their own borders and airports and turn others away on entry.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago

The Handmaid’s Tale. Seriously people, this is what’s happening.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Like fecees? He's talking about sending poop. President poopy pants is in love with poop.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately he is talking about sending people who are trained to kill

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You forgot the piss. He also loves piss. President Piss ‘n Shit.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

He's gonna send all his full diapers in via jet.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Obviously has no idea what appropriate means

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I wouldn't trust someone who was best friends with Epstein to know what's appropriate.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca -5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The next step towards a full fascist takeover of the United States.

And I still get downvotes when I tell Americans two No Kings protests in four months isn't going to be enough.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

And I still get downvotes when I tell Americans two No Kings protests in four months isn’t going to be enough.

Perhaps you're getting downvoted because thats a strawman argument you're creating? Is there anyone of any legitimacy saying two protests would be enough? Of course not, you know better. I can tell you thats why I downvoted you.

[–] Westcoastdg@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago

To be fair, you get downvotes because you're an asshole. Grass is also green but you don't see me posting it. Hope it is bringing you joy to be such an immensely correct person though!

[–] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca -3 points 1 day ago

But a lot of them asked really nice for them to stop being fascist!
