Hey, I just want to say thanks for posting this. I'm just a random internet stranger, but I'm happy for you. I think Fred Rogers sums it up best, he is the epitome of kindness to me.

It's you I like,

It's not the things you wear,

It's not the way you do your hair

But it's you I like

The way you are right now,

The way down deep inside you

Not the things that hide you,

Not your toys

They're just beside you.

But it's you I like

Every part of you.

Your skin, your eyes, your feelings

Whether old or new.

I hope that you'll remember

Even when you're feeling blue

That it's you I like,

It's you yourself

It's you.

It's you I like.

I don't see anywhere to donate at this time, I'd like to throw five bucks at the project every now and again. GitHub Sponsors may be an option, but there's a wait list it looks like. A lot of third party clients don't have a way to donate yet, which is unfortunate.

This is one of my favorite communities on Lemmy, I'd never seen the Strange Planet comics before, they're all fantastic.

Liftoff is my daily driver, Voyager is also great. It's awesome how many open source Lemmy apps are in active development right now.

If you're really lazy, you could just guzzle down a can of creamed corn.

It's crazy he (technically) starred in the top two movies at the box office at the time, Fast X and GotG 3.

You drink that corn water for the extra vitamins too?

Thanks! That reminds me, I need to reinstall ShareX, I knew there was something missing after getting a new PC haha.

I love a good underdog story.

Buy into your home instance instead by setting up a recurring monthly donation. It's doesn't have to be a lot, some have tiers as low as $1. Alternatively, you could donate to the Lemmy dev team, or some of the devs that are creating these spiffy apps we're using on our phones.

Overview:

As a former London constable, Nicholas Angel finds it difficult to adapt to his new assignment in the sleepy British village of Sandford. Not only does he miss the excitement of the big city, but he also has a well-meaning oaf for a partner. However, when a series of grisly accidents rocks Sandford, Angel smells something rotten in the idyllic village.

I came up with the idea for this community in the shower. What if I want to watch a movie with people from all over the world, and talk about it in a live thread? Live threads for sporting events and TV shows are pretty common, but I don't think I've seen it applied to movies before. The concepts are simple:

  1. Create an announcement post 2-12 hours before you want to host a watch party. This gives people time to find a copy of the movie, if they're interested in participating. If you have the means, you can also mention that you'll be streaming the movie on the official Discord server for those that don't have access to the movie.

  2. Create the live thread 30-60 minutes before the watch party starts. If you're going to be streaming on Discord, be sure to include the link to the server invite as well for anyone that wants to join in at the last minute.

  3. At the designated time, everyone presses play, and discusses the movie in the live thread.

UPDATE: If you don't have a copy of Starship Troopers, I will be streaming it on the Watch Party Discord Server. All discussion will take place in the live and post party threads. Feel free to use the Watch Party Discord Server in the future if you'd like to stream your movie for others as well!

Welcome to the Watch Party community!

This community will focus on movie watch parties as a niche, as to not step on the toes of other communities that will host their own live threads for events such as sports and television.

Here's how to get started:

  • 6-12 hours before you'd like to start a watch party, make a party announcement here to let everyone know.
  • 1 hour before the watch party starts, create a live thread so that everyone can discuss and react to the movie in real time.
  • Once the credits roll, feel free to create a post party discussion to talk about the movie as a whole.

Tips:

  • Every party participant is responsible for finding their own copy of the movie, feel free to post links or recommendations to legal sources of the movie in the announcement post. You can also stream your legally obtained copy of the movie on our official Discord server, see below or the sidebar for the invite link.
  • Be ready to press play at the movie start time, so that discussion can be as in sync as possible in the live thread.
  • Sort comments and posts by "New" to stay up to date on parties and discussions.

Standards

  • Use the MM/DD date format, and 24 hour time format in UTC. Here's a handy time zone converter you can use if you're unfamiliar with UTC.
  • The title should include the year (ex. 2023) the movie was released. It seems like every movie is a remake these days, and this will prevent any confusion.
  • Use the templates below to help keep the discussions organized.

Post Templates:

Announcements: Watch Party: Movie Title (YYYY) - MM/DD 00:00 UTC

  • Example: Watch Party: Starship Troopers (1997) - 07/03 00:00 UTC

Live Threads: LIVE THREAD: Movie Title (YYYY) - MM/DD 00:00 UTC

  • Example: LIVE THREAD: Starship Troopers (1997) - 07/03 00:00 UTC

Post Party Discussion: Post Party Discussion: Movie Title (YYYY)

  • Example: Post Party Discussion: Starship Troopers (1997)

OFFICIAL DISCORD SERVER

If you'd like to stream your movie for others to watch, you can join our official Discord server. All participants are muted, and discussion will occur in the LIVE thread. Be sure to include the invite link to the Discord server in your announcement and live thread posts, so others know they can join in on the fun!
