It's illegal to not buy Elon's stuff. So much freedom.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

Isn’t it also illegal to not advertise on twitter too?

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

5:00 time for mandatory doom scrolling on Twitter. Keep your camera on. Groot is trained to check eyes for engagement.

[–] acme401@lemmy.world 66 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Gosh, and I thought it was illegal for a president to record a car commercial for the world's richest man.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 22 points 2 days ago

Nothing is illegal if no one does something about it.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

He considered it an "Official Act", thus he gets immunity

[–] BostonSamurai@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

He keeps saying “illegal” but it’s pretty evident he doesn’t know what that work means.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 38 points 2 days ago

Trump calls Tesla boycott ‘illegal’

Is this the free market I keep hearing about?

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump dictionary:

Illegal - something I don't like.

[–] CobraChicken3000@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've been substituting "illegal" with "unfair" like a 6-year old might say it.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Someone who is bored should make a trump text translator. That could be great fun. Dump in trump-speak, output English.

[–] PseudorandomNoise@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If Obama advertised any company during any of his official duties there would be people foaming at the mouth to remove him and imprison him for corruption.

But with Trump it's just Tuesday.

[–] tlaud2@jasette.facil.services 6 points 3 days ago

@PseudorandomNoise Come back tomorrow for the big white WARehouse prime sale with Jeff Bestoff (Besos is not English enough) #tariffs #canada #stupid #trump

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

"Hatch"ed a good plan there, he did.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

He doesn’t even know how to drive

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's ok, he can use full self driving at full speed on the highway...

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago

Please, please do this

As far as I'm aware, he's not even allowed to drive. The secret service won't let even a retired president drive on public roads.

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago

I love how Trump thinks he's symbolizing something by paying a small amount of money back to Musk after he collected that massive amount for his campaign. Dude, if you didn't already buy his car, what the f*** message were you sending to him.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's illegal to boycott zio fascists, so I guess it's illegal to boycott regular fascists now?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/map-shows-states-where-boycotting-israel-is-illegal/ar-AA1nSvg0

Libs been grabbing that aipac cash while sliding down this slippery slope for a long time.

[–] kane@femboys.biz 16 points 3 days ago

Illegal to prefer buying an alternative in a capitalist society? 🧐

[–] SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How hilarious would it be if that Tesla malfunctions and results in…an incident

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Presidents are not allowed to drive over the Secret Service rules. He can be in the car. Just not driving.

Though given its safety issues I highly suspect that the Secret Service will not allow him in the car.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I think they have an exception for driving on White House grounds.

If Trump even knew how to drive a car I'd be shocked.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

"Illegal" is the new frustrating it seems.

[–] 60d@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

Just like how it's illegal to NOT advertise on X. All according to President Musk.

[–] ryrybang@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Well Trump is known for stupid decisions, so buying a Tesla is yet another.

Also, the stock really needs to fall much further. Bubble is still popping and there's a long way to go to come back to anything remotely reasonable.

Market cap is still (even with recent losses) bigger than GM plus Ford plus Disney plus Delta Airlines plus Northrop Grumman plus Nike plus Verizon plus CSX Rail.

Price to earnings is 113. And that's with dubious and outdated earnings information.

Absolute insanity. Sell whatever you have now while you can.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Bro. Dumbass said, "Tesla is so great, I will buy one (1)!" That shit is pennies to him, anybody want to guess how many times he will drive it?

How about, to show his support, he makes a heavy investment in the stock. That would show how confident he is in Tesla.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 days ago

He's also cheap enough that he'll probably invoice Musk for the PR.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Musk = POS Nazi wannabe!

[–] drzoidberg@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

If we're really lucky, it'll catch fire while he's locked inside with no way to escape.

[–] breen@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Hope you americans continue to burn them to the ground! Every Tesla dealership should be burnt to the ground 🔥🔥🔥

[–] Weirdmusic@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

The Tesla will go well with the Musk shaped butt plug.

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

Ww support the free mark-No, not like that!

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, this article does not have a direct quote for that. It just has a quote of him saying he was going to buy one. Why put it in the title if you can't show the quote? Or did I miss it where they quoted him saying boycotting tesla is illegal?

He says enough bat shit crazy shit you don't need to "trust me bro" quotes to get clicks.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

RTFA.

“I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American,” Trump wrote in a post published early Tuesday morning on Truth Social.

Trump said “radical left lunatics” are “illegally and collusively” boycotting Tesla, which the president described as one of the best automakers in the world. This action, Trump said, was meant as an attack on Musk and what he stands for.

Trump also said that he would deem violence against Tesla dealerships to be domestic terrorism, according to Reuters.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, that's not a direct quote, it's paraphrased so where is the actual quote?

[–] WarlockLawyer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It's just cutting out a pointless aside from Trump

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

illegally and collusively boycotting Tesla

Pretty much a direct quote. He called the boycott of Tesla illegal.

In this article is a screenshot of the Truth social post: https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-said-boycotting-tesla-illegal-201240898.html

I hope that's good enough, I'm not suicidal enough to go to Truth Social to find you the actual post.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Pretty much isn't good enough for this. Maybe I am being critical, but when you use this article as an example, the first thing your MAGA granddad is going to say is, "Where's the quote?" In my experience, you need it plainly spelled out to make a difference.

I am going to leave it now because, truthfully, I'm not trying to fight or pull a gotcha on you libs; I can't stand the shit bag either. I just feel like if you are a news source trying to fight this shit you might want to provide the actual quote and not paraphrase it. If I missed a truth social link then my pihole is working lol

Edit: also we weren't talking about the yahoo article they posted the whole quote. I am being critical of MSNBC for paraphrasing.

Okay now I'm done lol

[–] madjo@feddit.nl -2 points 2 days ago

The direct quote is "But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla".

Tell me what part of my quote in my previous comment isn't direct.

[–] gimmelemmy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Imagine thinking that a boycott was somehow illegal. How stupid can you be?

illegal boycott? I'm sure they're creaming their pants, imagining ways of forcing people to buy these cars.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You are not allowed to decide what to spend your money on

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 3 days ago

That’ll be the one that saves the company.
