Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

That seems more like a pre-shower thought.

[–] deur@feddit.nl 19 points 2 days ago

Idk its definitely a pre-being-done-showering-thought that could definitely preceed a shower

Sir. You appear to be lost. This is a Wendy's.

Remember your towel protocol:

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (4 children)

If you actually clean yourself in the shower this is unnecessary.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I still don't want my face to indirectly contact my own clean butt.

I want my face to directly contact someone else's clean butt.

If it brings people comfort to not use the same towel, it's probably not worth trying to push them away from that habit. It's one thing to know it intellectually, and another to feel off-put by the idea.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It is however very important to push people into cleaning themselves properly. The amout of dirty asses around us at all times is staggering and terrifying.

Indeed, it is always wise to be a hoopy frood.

White for hands, brown for feet, green for torso, thighs and seat. And in the cupboard beneath the stair...

[–] d00ery@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

...you'll find the red for pubic hair.

Worst flag ever.

If you're part of the Bidet Master Race and have a stack of mini butt/genitals-towels for use after bidet-ing, the whole towel becomes face-&-body with no worries

[–] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

All those times the kids at school called me butt-face... look who's complimenting me now. Ha, suckers.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 4 points 2 days ago

Clean yourself right and anywhere is good

At this point, all the stuff in the shower is sort of automatic. I’m usually thinking about other stuff.

[–] razorsoup@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lucky you. I have to actually try to get anything done

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 days ago

I have to try to remember what I did while I was spacing out so I don’t wash myself three times.

[–] Goretantath@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"ok, do the hair first, now the pits, now the arms, now the torso, now the crotch, now the legs, now the feet-carefull dumbass you dont wanna slip again!"

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

It is so awkward when you trip and do a hand stand in the shower

[–] Willy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Legs and feet are good with the run off.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Ew! That's nasty! What if some girl meets you at a coffee shop, and wants to suck your toes??? You just gonna have nasty toes that "dirty shower water has run over them, so it's fine"??? She'll never want to deep throat your foot with that attitude!!!

So I feel slightly bad about this now, but I know there was a solid year where I didn't wash my calves and below. I had been moved to a 0330 hours start time, and I was just a zombie when getting ready for work. I finally had adjusted everything after that year, and then it just hit me one day that I hadn't been washing my calves or feet. I would just get in the shower, and then go head to thigh and get out. Neither the spouse or I shave the legs, so it's not like that was taking care of the problem either.

And you know what? No one noticed. Not me, not coworkers, not the spouse, not the kids, not the dog (well, I don't really know if the dog noticed), not extended family members that I saw once in a while, and nobody that ever said anything at the beach/pool. My skin looked the same, I didn't have any extra odor... So I don't know. I'm just one data point, but I sort of get the whole 'no bathing' movement. It's maybe possible to get to the point where simply rinsing off muck and obvious grime is enough without having to scrub or clean. My personal opinion is that it would be nearly impossible in the more 'yucky' areas, like the groin and armpits, and you definitely want to have good care of the oils on your face and back/shoulders.

Sucking toes may not have been in there, but plenty of feet intimate moments did occur without issue. /shrug

Leave it to Matpat to take an issue that nobody knew was an issue, and then overanalize EVERYTHING!!!

[–] Willy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

That would bath time. I don’t want some girl sucking my coffee shop toes regardless of shower water or not.

Dude no. You have to actually wash them, what's the matter with you?

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 4 points 2 days ago
[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

yeah I don't get it. i have amazing thoughts all the time but rarely in the shower

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did I wash my hair? That's when I know I'll need extra coffee that day.

[–] NostraDavid@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

Put a few strands between your fingers and pull. If it squeaks, it's been washed.

[–] tenchiken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can you get mine while you are at it?

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Take a piss for me while you're up?
