Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Avoid misinformation.

Avoid incomprehensible posts.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

A sad day, indeed.

[–] bonn2@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

As a former .ee zip is feeling pretty much the same on thunder. I will still miss .EE though, truly some of the best admins and I wish them all the best

[–] PaulBunyan@lemm.ee 5 points 10 hours ago

I guess I can say what I want and not give a toot.

Tap for spoilerShit

I took it as a chance to make a better username and give myself a profile pic. Switched to piefed, and... I'm still unsure about it.

I guess you weren't SatansMagottyCumFart?

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Blahaj.zone has both a lemmy and a piefed option, so that's one of the reasons why I went with them. Plus, it seems to be one of the most accepting and transparent of the bunch.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Aren't the lemmy and piefed accounts two separate things, even if they're at the same domain, or is there something I'm missing? To me, this comment looks like it's coming from Lemmy, are you saying that you posted this from Piefed?

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 10 hours ago

No, I'm using a lemmy account, but the instance I am using offers to let you have a lemmy and Piefed account in the same place. So if you wanted to switch between the two, it's easy.

Holy crap, truscape is that you? Not sure if you remember me, from Minecraft years ago?

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 18 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

As one of the many, who had to abandon their feddit.de account last year, I feel you.

Lemmy still does not have a mechanism for migrating posts? It's 2025 already.

Hopefully nothing of this sort happens to SDF... ~~I am too lazy to make an account in my country lemmy~~

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I was able to migrate everything else, so I'm guessing it's up to the instance host to provide that data. I managed to export a .json of all my subscriptions, profile info, etc... so I guess it's just a structural issue with how images and posts are shared.

Can't complain about lemm.ee as a service though, they've been upfront about the whole thing.

[–] lambalicious@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 12 hours ago

Yup, I was looking from afar for a few months back when I chose instance and lemm.ee was pretty much my second choice. Sad but understandable to see it go.

[–] veniasilente@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 13 hours ago

Already moved from lemm.ee to db0 and the only thing I have pending is somehow migrating my posts. Fortuntately I don't post images (or, when I do, I only post links).

[–] Maybelline@lemm.ee 7 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Dumb question, but what's a sensible way to find a new home? I don't want a ton of porn, a ton of rage bait, etc... just looking for a new friendly home

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 13 hours ago

https://lemmy.zip/ is a solid choice. Similar moderation policy than lemm.ee.

Monthly reports: https://lemmy.zip/post/39959863

Lots of lemm.ee users moving there: https://lemmy.zip/post/40323214

If you are in the UK (where lemmy.zip is geoblocked due to UK laws), https://feddit.uk/ is a good option.

@Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com sorry if you'd prefer not to be @ed, hopefully this isn't rude any chance you could help Maybeline find a good new instance? I don't know the instances super well

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

No worries, happy to help!

[–] dastanktal@lemmy.ml 3 points 13 hours ago

Yeah happened to me too. Took some time to refresh my account and to start anew with a clean slate. Still sucks though.

I ended up in lemmy.ml as it gives me access to the broadest amount of servers.

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

I hope your new home is good to you and fulfills what you're looking for! 😊

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 3 points 14 hours ago

Yep, it's gone. Time to move on.
