Costa Rica. Lovely country with lovely people. They do not have a national military; this was a deliberate action by their government after civil unrest decades ago.

I don't know Spanish but Id love to learn :)

It’s not a difficult language to learn, and you’ll be able to use it in a lot of places around the world. It’s definitely a language worth learning.

Highly considering it

That depends what you wanna do and where you wanna live. If you're not sure, look for working holiday kinds of programs and try them on for size. It also depends what languages you speak, or want to speak.

If you only speak English, perhaps The Netherlands? Lovely place, okay folk and overall cheap for the quality of life provided (compared to France and Belgium, for instance).

I speak English and Hebrew, unfortunately dont know any languages other than English that are useful around the world.

In most of Europe, including almost every big city, you can survive with English, and learn the local language after you arrive. It will be a hard blocker if you are looking for teaching position though.

One thing you don't mention that would be important to figure out which countries would be a good fit for you is how important (or not) is to have access to a thriving Jewish community for you.

Try Vancouver, Canada.

We're always looking for good teachers here and left leaning works very well with the culture here

Toronto, Canada is also lovely

I was just at a Gaza fundraiser show that had Israeli anti-genocide voices in it (in addition to Palestinian performers)

Toronto, Canada is also lovely

Housing though, oof.

[–] jade52@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

Torontonian here - housing cost is out of control. News articles downplay it, saying "you only have to make 70k/year to live comfortably in Toronto". This is completely false. I lived this. 70k/year in Toronto might get you a bachelor apartment at 1700/month. Plus utilities, plus groceries, plus internet/phone (yes you need this in order to get a job anywhere). Plus saving for retirement. tl;dr: unless you come from a wealthy family or are already significantly wealthy without having to rely on a job, Toronto is not an easy place to live. Beautiful, safe, and friendly, but at high cost. Job market is not great right now either. Companies are not all hiring remotely.

Were the Israeli voices from any particular group? Im a member of Standing Together, which is one such group
