Here is the transcript (first and only view is free), but it's about an hour long. (*Note: this isn't satire, this the real transcript)

Likewise, in a period of just seven months, I have ended seven unendable wars. They said they were unendable. You’re never gonna get them solved. Some were going for 31 years, two of them, 31, think of it, 31 years. One was 36 years, one was 28 years. I ended seven wars. And in all cases, they were raging with countless, thousands of people, being killed. This includes Cambodia and Thailand; Kosovo and Serbia; the Congo and Rwanda, a vicious violent war that was; Pakistan and India; Israel and Iran; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Armenia and Azerbaijan. It included all of them. No president or prime minister, and for that matter, no other country has ever done anything close to that. And I did it in just seven months. It’s never happened before. There’s never been anything like that. Very honored to have done it.

It’s too bad that I had to do these things instead of the United Nations doing them. And sadly, in all cases, the United Nations did not even try to help in any of them. I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal.

All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle. If the first lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen, but she’s in great shape. We’re both in good shape, we’re both still. And then a teleprompter that didn’t work. These are the two things I got from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter. Thank you very much. And by the way, it’s working now, just went on. Thank you. I think I should just do it the other way; it’s easier. Thank you very much.

Armenia and Azerbaijan

Wasn't that Albania?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think that was from last week, this is from today.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 16 points 1 week ago

Praise be, another war averted!

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago

Albania and Aberbaijan you mean? That was the 8th war he ended

I like this quote because this is maybe the only room on the planet you can try to say this lie in and have most (all?) of the people you failed to negotiate peace with/for in the room.

Meanwhile Jesse Watters says America needs to bomb or “maybe gas” the United Nations. Nothing to be alarmed about.

If trump was there they’ve already been gassed, he probably shit his diaper mid speech

We should definitely talk about this embarrassing blunder instead of the ongoing concealment of the Epstein files!

I feel so bad for the translators who have to try to make sense of his ramblings.

There's been at least one instance that I know of of an interpreter (for a German TV station) accidentally complaining on air about the bullshit Donnie made him translate. I'd be surprised if there weren't more internationally.

there was a series of articles during his first term where translators in (i think) india complained that it made them look bad, because they worked in one of those modal languages where politicians use a specific modus as a matter of course. since his speech is so erratic it was basically impossible to represent in that "political mode" and it made the translation look wrong, they stopped publishing what he said and just produced summaries edited to look correct.

i think about that a lot, especially in combination with polled populations in some countries being more in favour of don than others.

sidenote, i tried to find one of the articles i remember but that's all been overshadowed by an event from february in which he used a translator app on stage to try to understand what an indian reporter asked him in english.

Edit: found one: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jun/06/trump-translation-interpreters
i think i mixed things up a bit, the indian translators were indeed producing summaries because he was hard to translate but it was the japanese translators that had problems with modal speech. makes sense really.

would pose a problem for Japanese interpreters came last year after a leaked 2005 recording in which he made lewd remarks about women, describing how he grabs women “by the pussy”.

“We all had a huge problem with that,” said Tsuruta, who is also a professor of interpreting and translation studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. “If we had used [the Japanese loan word] pushii then a lot of people would not have understood what we were talking about.”

In the end, she played safe with the regular Japanese words for female genitalia. “It still made us all feel very uncomfortable.”

I remember them talking about this. One translator was even quoted as saying Japanese doesn't have a slang word for pussy, which was just wrong. It's perhaps a bit more vulgar than they'd want to print in a newspaper but it's not quite as strong as cunt, or the was the US uses it anyway--maybe it's comparable to printing that in an Australian newspaper.

What did he do now?
Wait he didn't literally say that, right?!?

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It was Cambodia and Armenia.

It doesn’t even need the exaggeration. He’s a senile old man and he addressed the United Nations and told them he ended a war between two countries that are 4000 miles apart who have never been at war with each other.

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago

He's stopping wars before they've even started!

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 1 week ago

Please solve the war for Epstein freedom files, do it for Kirk

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Has that number ever gone above zero?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yes, it went up to 1 but that was put there as a placeholder while they gave the 0 a damn good cleaning.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

There were a few days recently when he wasn't seen in public.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Remember when Hugo Chavez was the one who was being embarrassing in the UN? Now, it's Trump's turn.
