It's one of the fonts of all time!

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

It is truly horrific.

[–] jodanlime@midwest.social 68 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck is that hideous font.

Lol ouch. I thought it would be a good idea to buy a room full of synthesizers before a new car so I'm stuck working third shift until I can get out of this hole.

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 22 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Synthesize a new car then, you got the tools.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're the music kind not the star trek kind :( :) I can do a Cars cover song though, maybe.. lol.

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If they have a pitch bend wheel thing, you could make it sound like a car changing gears, chuck it on an electric skateboard and boom! new car.

[–] Lawnman23@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This person is big brain thinking.

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

Nah, just stoned and poor.

Now there's an ad hahaha, I suppose it is a bit of perspective, we've come a long way in terms of affordability.

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 15 points 3 days ago

Sad bleep bloop noises

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sell 2 of your synths that have keyboards with more than 39 keys. You don't use them (be honest, we've all fallen victim to our own GAS) and you could use the money and space.

Specifically, sell them to me for a very good deal.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hahaha, I've definitely been considering paring down a bit only because it's a lot to keep track of at once, but I only have two synths with keyboards RN the Yamaha SY-77 and Novation BassStation 2, the rest are all desktop or rack modules. I'd love to have some more older keyboards like a Jupiter or Juno or Prophet but the price and upkeep and all that is getting a bit much.

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I put a hard stop on buying synths with keyboards after I got a 61 key controller. Then I found a Grandmother for $600, so now I just look at Eurorack stuff that I can't afford as I feed LFOs and envelopes into it from my Hydrasynth.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Good deal, Grandmothers have such a lovely sound (lol). The only Moog I ever had as a Labyrinth and that was fun, had to let it go but would pick up another at some point. Yeah I'm not exactly Keith Emerson so I don't need a lot of keyboards either, I would like to have a nice analog polysynth keyboard though, that is the one thing I'm currently missing but I'll probably go with a module again.

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Have you considered the Dreadbox Nymphes? I don't have one, but it's on my list because it hits the Juno60/106 target very well while also being more flexible in terms of sound design. BYOKB, but I can see one of them sitting very well next to a digital workhorse like a Blofeld or MS2000R in a setup for when you need that analog feeling.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yep and I really like Dreadbox as a company, they do their own thing they're pretty underrated sound wise as well, I have an Erebus 3 and like it a lot my only problem with the Nymphes was the reported USB noise which I guess is okay if you power it normally, I would just prefer not to have USB powered synths. It is lovely sounding though, I was looking at the newer one, the Artemis as a possibility, or maybe an Oberheim TEO-5 or new Sequential Forum, or a Polyvera haha. Lots of choices now. I miss my Blofeld too, I sold it after I got the Virus TI because of overlap but it really has a great sound.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Modular synth modules, or just a bunch of different keyboards?

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

A little of both, don't have a full modular system because well that's a whole different money sink, but I have a bunch of semi modular stuff that I hook up together, a lot of desktop synths, few keyboards, rack modules, sequencers, effects pedals. I'd love to get into eurorack sometime but that time is not now haha.

Someone once said to budget the luxuries first.

Say that you like to eat well. If you spend money on food and eat well three times a day, you can put up with having to scrimp on clothes and transport. But if you cut your budget across the board you're more like to find yourself blowing money because of stress.

[–] Eq0@literature.cafe 10 points 3 days ago

It is great for your mental health.

When I was a student and had to hardcore budget, first was rent, second was “social Friday beer”, and only then came the food budget. Nowadays, beer wouldn’t be second, but it was the goal that reminded me why I couldn’t blow my money too quickly.

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 13 points 3 days ago

I can often justify buying nice things if it's of high quality. I still own and use most of the nice things I've ever bought. What also helps is to have a relatively cheap taste. I think my 18 year old pickup truck is pretty damn nice.

If I buy it used, it means someone is willing to pay that much for a used one, it's practically an investment!

[–] modern_drift@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Would rather be poor with nice things than poor with crappy things.

[–] BlueLineBae@midwest.social 3 points 3 days ago

That's why I typically save up for nicer things, or try to go to lots of flea markets and thrift stores. I have lots of unique and super fancy glassware for my bar and a nice collection of cast iron plus many more nice things without breaking the bank.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nothing nice I buy ever stays nice for long.

it's like I have the Midas touch but instead of everything turning to gold it just breaks.

[–] Malgas@beehaw.org 17 points 3 days ago

The Mierdas Touch.

[–] StopSpazzing@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well you must be to maintain that thing.

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

🤦🏼‍♂️

Yeah, sounds about white.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

For someone who just got a 9th car, this rings true.

For reference the total actual value of all these cars is less than 10k. 4 of them are projects. And I am always working on one or the other so I have spares.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Financially speaking S3 (a hot hatch) is a great choice that losses less in value over the years compared to most regular cars (and it's practical, low maintenance, cheap to run).

10/10 would spontaneously key the car if I saw that font tho.
/s!! (property destruction of the poor belongs in hell)

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Audi S3? Low maintenance?

Lmao

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I never had it personally, but what are the issues?

It's just a Golf, the engines are fairly rugged four-cylinders (underspeced a bit even), just change the oil, tires, and brakes depending on your driving style. Just like on a normal version of the car (A3/Golf). Even the official service fees are low.
It's one of the reason why they (and GTIs) are popular.

[–] PissingIntoTheWind@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Just paid off my sports car. Dumbest purchase of my life but it’s over! Now to buy a truck!

I put my hyperfixations on bargain hunting, antiques, and woodworking, so i don't have any money, but I look like a real piece of shit when I say that.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I wish I could get into antiques (and bargain hunting in general tbh) but I get overwhelmed by the choice and with antiquing it’s a matter of grabbing the piece when the time is right. Lately I'm appreciating MCM particleboard and plywood look less and solid wood more - of course a solid wood MCM piece is still nice, its just that a lot isn’t. It’s challenging because for a lot of things I can go online and say these three objects are the leaders in their field; one is too heavy, two is too expensive, and three is a good balance for my needs; I’ll get #3. But with antiques there’s a ton of local awareness that i need too. I can totally understand how this could be an adhd hyperfocus.

I also have a small home with no storage space whatsoever and no space to repair or refurbish. I’d have to stack stuff in the living space between dining table and couch.

As a man with 2 Audi vehicles…and ADHD….how dare you!
