I went through this about 3 years ago.
I’d recommend a shotgun as your first / home defense weapon. I went with a KSG because it’s kinda absurdist. You’ll need a rifle too so I’d look at an AR-15 or AK47 but I lean AR since parts are probably available for it next door to where you are.

Concur - I don’t think a lot of people outside of the US and Canada truly grasp how large the landmass is. It would take me 3 days to drive to DC and over a week by train. I’m sure as shit not getting on an airplane right now… and even if I did, they’re not letting me bring any guns.
I don’t think I’ve proactively listened to music put out by a major label in 18 years. Anything I’ve listened to has been a smaller label (that wouldn’t have a legal department large enough to try to pull this shit) or released by the musician(s) directly.
