In a bid to identify individuals allegedly involved in creating and distributing cheats for the video game Destiny 2, Bungie has subpoenaed the U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange Kraken. The subpoena seeks to identify the owner of a Bitcoin wallet, who is believed to be a European resident. This individual, however, is contesting the subpoena, claiming it violates EU privacy laws and other regulations.

While we are deeply disappointed with the Second Circuit’s opinion in Hachette v. Internet Archive, the Internet Archive has decided not to pursue Supreme Court review. We will continue to honor the Association of American Publishers (AAP) agreement to remove books from lending at their member publishers’ requests.

I'm looking for a cloud provider with a cheap VPS offer to host my own wireguard relay and use it to seed.

I've read that Switzerland is safe for torrenting, so I was thinking about using Infomaniak. Does anyone has experience with seeding torrents from their IP addresses ? I'm also interested in other suggestions.

Thank you :)

The ACE anti-piracy coalition sidelined dozens of sports streaming sites this week with action against dozens of domain names including Crackstream and various Streameast clones. The official Streameast was targeted by the U.S. Government earlier this year, but the copycat takedowns are just as important, as these sites drew more traffic than the original.

Hidden pirate features within seemingly harmless apps, known as "stealth apps," are slipping past Apple's App Store security, offering users access to pirated movies and TV shows. Taiwan's Criminal Police Bureau recently busted three individuals promoting unlock instructions for these apps to roughly 400,000 users. Surprisingly, this tech-savvy scheme was orchestrated by a group whose combined age totals 215 years.

Red Rooms is about things that happen in the dark corners of the internet. Naturally it found an audience of fans who pirated it there.

When you have some torrent where there is a huge collection of files only some of which you want right now, but maybe you will come back to it later to get something else.

Example: This is a listing for torrents of audiobooks from The Eye. (Alphabetically by author, one torrent per letter.)

So I don't want to download every audiobook ever. I selectively choose which to download. Then the torrent is "completed" when those are done. But I want to keep them around because maybe later I want something else. I just leave them in the queue?

In the torrent apps I've used, they seem to get confused by these. If you move the downloaded file to a proper location in your filesystem, then it is having a "missing files" error, unable to seed, and the torrent is in error state. But if you leave the obtained files, it's still in the "not yet downloaded" directory forever.

Wondering if there is some smart way of managing this, or what?

Japan's Cultural Affairs Agency is looking towards AI to strengthen the country's battle against rampant online piracy. The pilot program proposed by the agency would see culturally significant manga and anime content protected by automated image and text recognition systems, with less reliance placed on resource-intensive human intervention.

No IPTV is not a crime (social.freetalklive.com)

Umm, no, IPTV is NOT a crime. It's a protocol. An IPTV provider may be committing copyright infringement IF they're sourcing materials without permission from copyright holders. That's NOT the same thing as a protocol being illegal. The argument an application is illegal would be better reserved to applications connected to services and/or companies like Napster or LimeWire, but even in those cases it was NOT illegal for FrostWire (a fork of LimeWire) to be distributed even after the court found the LimeWire entity to be violating the law. The criminality was something along the logic that they advertised content early on that that they knew or should have known was not legally available through the system (assuming I'm thinking of the right case here). Napster was centrally controlled, LimeWire was not. LimeWire had an interesting bootstraping protocol that didn't rely on a central server (from what I recall) which is also why FrostWire (and possibly other clients) continued working after the LimeWire entity shut down.

MP3.to is a nifty online tool that allows users to convert MP3s to dozens of other file formats. While these conversions don't knowingly violate any law, Spanish music industry group Promusicae reportedly labeled the service an audio download tool. In response, Google removed the URL from its search engine and banned the associated AdSense account. However, after the MP3 site involved its lawyer, Google reversed its decision.

Hello, we were wondering if there's a place to either get more tracks for movies and television shows etc so that they are accessible, i.e. Audio Descriptions.

We know some people that find anything lacking an audio description track inaccessible and so were wondering if there was a place we could go to get them or if there is a place where they are already included in the file.

Thanks so much!

A 42-year-old man was arrested in a recent UK crackdown on illegal IPTV suppliers, with a special mention for 'illicit Firesticks'. Local police, in collaboration with anti-piracy group FACT, also sent cease and desist letters to thirty other suspects. While FACT warns that pirate operators risk criminal penalties, there appears to be no end in sight for the streaming piracy whack-a-mole.

The system will train AI to recognize piracy websites by analyzing their layouts, advertisements, and content patterns. It will also utilize image recognition to detect unauthorized use of manga and anime materials provided by publishers.

from the this-is-fine dept

How is this related to piracy? FCC regulates the pipes we use (some of us at least).

A long-running lawsuit against pirate set-top box distributor Jadoo TV, launched by DISH Network and coordinated by the International Broadcaster Coalition Against Piracy, has ended with a $24.9m judgment in favor of the plaintiffs. In addition to the imminent shutdown of the IPTV service, domain names, trademarks, and all customer lists will be handed over to DISH.

Trouble continues for some of the largest pirate sites specializing in Asian entertainment. Coinciding with the shutdown of Dramacool, GogoAnime and Anitaku stopped uploading new content. This weekend, AnimeFenix added to the trouble with a 'voluntary' shutdown citing more copyright pressure. "Piracy will never go away as long as there are companies with more greed than heart," the AnimeFenix team notes in its farewell message.

So as I look to build my first dedicated media server, I’m curious about what OS options I have which will check all the boxes. I’m interested in Unraid, and if there’s a Linux distro that works especially well I’d be willing to check that out as well. I just want to make sure that whatever I pick, I can use qbittorrent, Proton, and get the Arr suite working
