Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Can't relate at all

I tried monster once in like 2019 and it tasted so bad I never bought an energy drink since

If I want caffeine I just get coffee

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I have bafflingly inconsistent stomach problems. Coffee wrecks me, but Monster and Red Bull are totally fine for some reason

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

Coffee is cheaper, but it tastes awful, too.

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Unfortunately the cost of an energy drink at least around here is nearly the cost of a large gas station coffee ~2.50$. and that's for shit gas station coffee, if you go to like Starbucks you will pay double that easily.

Then you're making coffee wrong!

(Or just don't like it, which is totally okay too)

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It isn't the worst taste, but I usually prefer to get my caffeine other ways (mainly tea or soda).

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

If only I could find (not too expensive) good tea where I live...

I treat caffeine as a drink for the effects, not for the taste. Only energy drinks are good for the taste when I want both.

Instant coffee, raw coffee, the shitty coffee that comes in MRE packets, the fancy stuff that costs too much, espressos, 5-hour energy, I'll chug it all down all the same. Treat it like vodka or whiskey - don't bother trying to taste it.

[sound of 1000 amateur baristas inhaling in preparation for a 2-hour lecture about how you are making your coffee wrong]

Just do Coke. Problem solved.

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Meth lasts longer.

Okay but I'm already an asshole and don't need asshole steroids. Therefore energy drinks.

I love the taste of energy drinks, it tastes like liquid gummy bears to me (which is a good thing). But the name brand stuff is super expensive and I definitely don't want to have a pint of it in a container that can't be closed again. Also I get digestive issues from caffeine, haha

Taurine tastes and smells like vomit, I don't get how so many people are into energy drinks.
