Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

can someone fact check me? Didn't monster donate to Trump's campaign? thx

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 1 points 16 hours ago

Huh I didn't realize it was a thing, I worked with a trans woman who drank 4 of these things a night though, I really have no idea how her body handled it.

A couple of years ago i was hiring a sound team for a game. The biggest challenge was to hire someone who would make the monster sounds. For some reason the game director wanted to do it "like Mike Patton in I am Legend" and it was the single stupidest recruitment campaign i had to endure. Lots of deathgrowl dudes being very same and sweaty. And what do you know - the candidate who got the job was a girl who went to the interview for shits and giggles and she didn't even tried sounding Lovecraftian eldritch abomination. And then she got screwed out of proper credit and quit the business.

do u take take your hrt as a pill, an injection, or drink monster

Monster gives me the energy I need to top my pillow princess all night in the Uhaul.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 26 points 2 days ago

I think it's more that Naomi is the sort of person who considers Monster part of her personality

[–] chocosoldier@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 days ago

yes. all the monster memes are ads and it's stupid obvious.

[–] cannibalkitteh@lemmy.blahaj.zone 119 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's the same people, they've just grown up and switched genders as one does.

“BMX dudes who punch drywall” 🤣 spot on

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Monster is actually a company that I will try to avoid as much as possible, specifically for their marketing. It's one of the few energy drinks that I can tolerate and it would be my default "go to" when I need one, but I refrain from buying them because I remember seeing their giant pickup trucks in the streets of my city and I hate them.

I bought hundreds of cans before but since I've seen a few of their monstrosities parade in my city, I avoid them.

Counterpoint: White Monster being meme-ish regarded as God's Nourishment on Gymbro Media

[–] EldenLord@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I can't tell if this is a colorized djoujin, colorized standalone hentai, or a utter shit post a la astolfo monster memes.

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Their branding must be region dependent. Monster drinks are still definitely targeting "BMX dudes" here.

[–] chocosoldier@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

monster be viral marketing to trans women super hard the past decade and i'm tired of pretending it's "just a meme". this is a fucking ad.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

is people talking about a movie they saw on a movie board also an advertisement in your definition of the word?

Plot twist: monster energy drinks make you gay.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 days ago (6 children)

I have a theory that normal monster makes you normal gay, white monster makes you a femboy and berry monster turns you into a lesbian.

Other flavors still under testing.

[–] python@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah, I mostly had white monster in my childhood, but being afab it didn't turn me into a femboy but into a software engineer. Truly tragic.

I thought white Monster was for millennial boomers

Can't relate at all

I tried monster once in like 2019 and it tasted so bad I never bought an energy drink since

If I want caffeine I just get coffee

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I have bafflingly inconsistent stomach problems. Coffee wrecks me, but Monster and Red Bull are totally fine for some reason

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Coffee is cheaper, but it tastes awful, too.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Then you're making coffee wrong!

(Or just don't like it, which is totally okay too)

Unfortunately the cost of an energy drink at least around here is nearly the cost of a large gas station coffee ~2.50$. and that's for shit gas station coffee, if you go to like Starbucks you will pay double that easily.

[–] EldenLord@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

[sound of 1000 amateur baristas inhaling in preparation for a 2-hour lecture about how you are making your coffee wrong]
