Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). I'd also like him to drop dead. It seems our goals are singularly aligned.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I’m pretty sure he’s made comments that suggest he would try to eliminate elections.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

He is in charge of the FEC now.

[–] SlothMama@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

Whose life? He can't possibly live that much longer tbh

[–] KulunkelBoom@lemm.ee 26 points 12 hours ago

With any luck he'll only live a couple more days.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago

Realistically, his life probably won't last until the end of his term. It's vance's theocratic dictatorship you need to watch out for.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 7 hours ago

Hopefully not very long then.

[–] dQw4w9WgXcQ@lemm.ee 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Even if he doesn't live through his term, the action of evading term limits will surely have much longer impact as it opens new doors for dictators.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Best case scenario he finishes his prep to abolish term limits and fails to kill elections.

Then we get Obama/Waltz 2028.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I hope someone helps him fulfill that wish immediately.

[–] psyklax@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

"President for life"

monkey's paw moment.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

"I declare myself President for life!"

"So you're saying there's exactly one very particular way for us to make you not be President more...?"

"Uh..."

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 9 points 13 hours ago

My dudes, this pacifist in the USA with active background investigations will happily say I’d die defending my country against this outcome.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 18 hours ago

Personally I hope he doesn't even finish two full terms.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago
[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

But hopefully he waits until the 4 years term is done. I gotta agree with the other guy who pointed out that vans is basically a nazi but unlike trump, vans would probably not care about "coming out" and doing what nazis do.

[–] lipilee@feddit.nl 11 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

...by eating mcds and drinking coke every day. He'll catch that burger from the sky in 2-3 years.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago

Not likely. Fucker is going to be 100 out of spite and being filthy rich

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

Nah he's just planting trees for future generations to sit under.

Can't have Barron end up anywhere other than King, right?

[–] sudo@lemmy.today 34 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I was called out (on Reddit) for pointing out how insanely dangerous this comment was in 2018.

Trump also praised China’s President Xi Jinping for recently consolidating power and extending his potential tenure, musing he wouldn’t mind making such a maneuver himself. “He’s now president for life. President for life. No, he’s great,” Trump said. “And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot some day.”

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

“On Reddit”? There’s your problem.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

this is some annoying meta-irony thing that a politician should not be doing, because it is very difficult to discern a position from it. you have to take him both literally and sarcastically at the same time, which is about as useful as ignoring him. nobody has a clue what's going on when he talks

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 3 points 18 hours ago

It's senile ramblings and when he rambles on his deathbed who to kill next even then the sycophants around him will follow it as a message from the 6d gods playing chess against the enemy.

[–] NewDay@lemmy.world 22 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Where is Luigi? We need him more than ever.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

In another castle.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

A New York jail of some kind.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

You know if you got a few thousand like minded people, you could change that.

[–] joyjoy@lemm.ee 43 points 1 day ago

Give a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 81 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Was it not already clear last time when he encouraged his followers to launch an insurrection when he lost?! How much fucking warning do you need?

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The insurrection happened because conservatives saw that they couldn't win democratically.

This time they did, with the help of voter suppression.

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

with the help of voter suppression.

And amplification of the anti-electoralist/accelerationist cult's propaganda.

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 1 points 14 hours ago

And with the help of the other right wing party, by putting forth a candidate who insisted everything is fine, even when it isn't.

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

.. win democratically. This time they did, with the help of voter suppression.

So, they didn't.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 124 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Let’s let him be president for life, as long as that life is less than four more years. Anything beyond that has a “second amendment solution”, as I’ve heard countless Republicans describe.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

as I’ve heard countless Republicans describe

99% of whom are fucking chicken hawks.

The only ones who put their money where their mouths are got arrested for occupying BLM land in Oregon, or later, Congress.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 92 points 1 day ago

I mean, it's pretty obvious to anyone paying attention.

He wants to be America's Putin

[–] UnexpectedBehavior@lemmy.world 80 points 1 day ago (3 children)

By dying within three years?

[–] meeeeetch@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He scrapped USAID. The CIA is gonna take that a lot more personally than 'he didn't escalate our harebrained scheme in Cuba to a full war'.

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Were the CIA to effective take steps to defend American democracy from authoritarianism they could almost be forgiven for all their other fuckery.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

I really really really hope you’re right

When 'jokes' align with actions, they stop being jokes—this is a blueprint for authoritarianism. Well-supported claims and critical analysis.

Luckily, Trump's built-in termination date isn't too far away and will limit the damage.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Vance is the dangerous one. Trumps only purpose was to get Vance onto the throne. Peter Thiel will likely have him whacked and blame it on the radical left so Vance can use martial law to further dismantle Americas democratic institutions.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Peter Thiel likes money, i still find it hard to believe billionaires are ride or die like the Nazis.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 1 points 11 minutes ago

He's still part of a weird Catholic sect. The Nazis think they are manipulating the fundamentalists to do their bidding, but really it's the other way round. Just wait and see.

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Spaniards said much the same about Franco and that little fucker stuck around seemingly forever.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago

I don’t think so. Dying of natural causes signals to Republicans that they just need to try again but with a younger fascist.

Dying from, say, a guillotine sends a different signal.
