"Business" with DJ means private dealings resuling in things like Hotels, Golf courses, prostitutes, piss tapes.

most of that business he does with mass murdering gulf states, and other mob regimes like Russia.

Carney looks like he watches reality getting kicked in the balls, repeatedly and with force.

[–] Billonthehill@lemmy.world 44 points 15 hours ago

Ah but those are 2024 numbers. In 2025 the numbers will show that Canada doesn’t buy anything from the US any more. Same with most of the rest if the world. Trump will be right! /s

If the orange twit didn't have so many scheming enablers in Washington he'd've been long gone by now. No real company would put up with such idiocy

[–] Altrex@lemmy.world 47 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

I have family who truly believe Trump to be a genius. But everytime, and I do mean everytime I hear him speak he comes off as a senile idiot.

I wish I understood what spell he has people under.

He just speaks with certainty, and since some people truly know nothing (and not in the wise, Socratic way, lol) and have never used their brains in earnest, they believe it. Maybe they like his humour too (not a good reason to pick a leader but, again, people are moronic and basically brain-dead in the States). Maybe they like he's racist and cheeky about it, in a very aspirational way.

Have you tried turning off Right Wing Media, sitting down with your family, and hitting them?

[–] urandom@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

What stick size do you recommend?

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 hours ago

A 7 iron works best

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Whoa, don't do this ...you will hurt your hands. Get yourself a nice thick hose. You want it thick enough to be able to swing easily but not so thick that it will break bones. That'll hurt them but not you and you'll have lots of energy to keep swinging.

[–] SausageWallet@lemm.ee 4 points 12 hours ago

No, no, no. What you do is lead them outside to the nearest tree and have them pick out a switch from the tree and then you take it and repeatedly smack them with it. If they continue to speak in favor of their idiot, then you resort to washing their mouths out with soap.

everytime

Not a word, my dude.

Having said that, I admit I can no longer watch Mr Trump do anything. I feel I'm growing dumber just by sharing in the experience. I'm not a smart man, and I can't spend non-renuable brain cells on watching that man. I just can't spare the cells.

[–] homicidalrobot@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

Y'all'dn't've led with that, could've just started from "I'm not a smart man". Now everyone knows you made 10k comments in one year AND you're a pedant.

[–] mastertigurius@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

non-renuable

Not a word, my dude.

[–] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

This bozo doesn't even know how to nu their cells.

[–] 96VXb9ktTjFnRi@feddit.nl 2 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

if only I knu how to renu my cells :(

[–] threeganzi@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago

It is now, and Shakespeare approves.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 102 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Facts don't matter. Trump's base will eat it up like candy, and that's all that the fascists need.

[–] gwilikers@lemmy.ml 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm kinda looking back on 20th century fascists and thinking, "God, you think someone would have pointed out just how interminably stupid these people were."

  1. Appeal to base animosity against 'outgroups'.
  2. Argue that effective governance is hindered by democratic bureaucracy.
  3. Appeal to an idealised past.
  4. Misogyny and racism.

It's the same predictable shit. There isn't an 'alt-right'. This is what fascists are. It's what they've always been. Stupid scared children who look for an authoritarian daddy and a punching bag to safely beat on.

Assuming people haven't gotten particularly dumber over the years (hardware, not software-wise), how would 'the usual suspects' prevent some demagogue to use the weakest and more stupid members of society against their own interests, condemning also their souls in the process? Italy is at it again, so is Germany, and there are more than enough whiffs of racism and violence in the UK and France too. Americans might just be the worst of the Europeans, but we're mostly headed in the same direction, so... how can we make sure this never happens again in the West, or at least not as often?

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

After almost a decade it feels like most of the human population still do not understand it.

Fascism/Conservatism is not "politics". It is mental illness (narcissism etc) wrapped in a political bow.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 5 points 16 hours ago

Maybe it is, but could we stop saying this? Politics shouldn't be analyzed from a psychological perspective. It's a social phenomena, not a cognitive one. Fascism shouldn't be excused or explained, it should be fought.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 7 points 22 hours ago

I find it hard to tell if it's just lack of understanding. I think there is also a lack of will to do anything about harmful ideas. Nobody wants to stand up to their asshole family members. Stuff like that.

Belief without evidence goes unchallenged like it's somehow worthy of any respect to live like that. Like these gits are to be treated equal to someone following the evidence or having a strong truth value.

Idk there's probably 5000 reasons in this messy web we weave.

[–] Kualdir@feddit.nl 46 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

The more damage he does to Canada US relations the more I want the EU and Canada to get closer :)

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Indeed, and Carney is particularly well connected to accomplish that... fingers crossed he does the job and doesn't turn out to be a disappointment

[–] TheCriticalMember@aussie.zone 21 points 23 hours ago

Agreed. If there's any good that can come out of the trump administration, it'll be that the rest of the world learns to be more cooperative. At least that's what I'm hoping, wouldn't bet against the complete opposite...

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 7 points 22 hours ago

We have been already. More EU export gains than US losses so far.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 69 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When he says "We", he means the Trump org, or the side of the Kushners who are with him. Remember - either it directly and immediately benefits him, or he doesn't know it exists. When he says "we", he always means "I". He doesn't do much business with Canada. Therefore, he wants to buy it so he can shit out slums all over it.

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 50 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

“Canada will never be for sale”

“Never say never“

What a shitty way to treat a guest.

[–] jaxxed@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Trump had already been caught with agreeing that somethings are never for sale on the WH topic, where he commented "it's true"

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

And I’m sure he’s already forgotten that, and/or changed his mind at least a dozen times by now.

Because he’s fucking insane

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 38 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Carney mouthed the word never five times with a smile on his face in response to that on the Canadian broadcast.

[–] CheeryLBottom@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I saw a clip of this. I loved Carney's facial expressions...nothing overt. It was funny.

I love Carney

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 hours ago

In his heart he turned towards the camera, rolled his eyes, and made the jerk off motion.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's quite the freeze frame image of Carney. Haha

[–] TassieTosser@aussie.zone 5 points 12 hours ago

It's like the utter stupidity gave Carney a stroke.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty much what happens when I listen to Trump talk too.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 6 points 22 hours ago

No kidding. Imagine having to listen to that while so many eyes are on you?

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

Carney even mentions this fact during the conference stating something along the lines "Canada is the US' biggest client". I can only imagine how hard Carney must have bit his tongue anytime Trump rambled wrong facts about how economies work.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

The other striking thing to all this stupidity is .... $143.6 B of trade with China

Everyone keeps demonizing China and treating it like some sort of new military power that is going to take over the world ... yet they do billions of dollars worth of trade with them every year
