"Just inspected the site of the new Ballroom that will be built, compliments of a man known as Donald J. Trump, at the White House," he began in a post on Truth Social earlier this month.

"For 150 years, Presidents, and many others, have wanted a beautiful Ballroom, but it never got built because nobody previously had any knowledge or experience in doing such things — But I do, like maybe nobody else, and it will go up quickly, and be a wonderful addition, very much in keeping with the magnificent White House itself.

He is so fucking full of himself it's almost unbelievable. I'm sure this will turn out just as well as the wall that's being built and paid for by Mexico.

[–] CalipherJones@lemmy.world 14 points 10 hours ago

A ballroom on taxpayers dime while the wealth gap widens and the immigrants are blamed for it all.

[–] Lanske@lemmy.world 16 points 17 hours ago

Turning the white house into mar-a-lago 2?!

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

The man is actually worse than the piggiest resident of a sty

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 47 points 22 hours ago

He is the white trash of presidents

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 120 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It looks like they’re getting rid of the grass that was under the seating area. They’re also putting French drains around that gathering area.

The roses and topiaries are still there, they’re just redoing the area where the chairs and tables go.

This is landscaping change is pretty low on my lists of concerns about Trump. I have a lot of greenery in my yard, and I also put gravel and stone under the seating areas.

[–] sthetic@lemmy.ca 22 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

I agree. I despise Trump. But removing a lawn and putting in hardscape, in a spot where people often gather for events, is not an insult to heritage or anything like that.

If a president that I otherwise liked did this, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

It's not as if a lawn is super environmentally valuable. And I doubt people spread picnic blankets and play Frisbee on this lawn - they put chairs on it and walk on it with heels and hold events and stuff. A hard surface is the right thing for that type of use.

And if a future president decides to put lawn back in, they can! It's not as blades of grass and sandy growing medium are irreplaceable.

Ah if it’s just grass, fine. I hate grass. Always needing water or it’s gonna catch fire. And allergies to go around. Grass can go.

Let’s save all the outrage for cutting Medicare, starting wars. That’s where my ragebait is.

[–] Hotrod54chevy@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I know, I know, he's just paving over the grass, who gives a shit, but if you keep reading:

Are there more White House renovation plans? Yes, Trump has shared plans to build a $100 million ballroom, similar to his private Mar-A-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Gross. So yeah that falls into stealing tax payer money and warrants a rage.

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

trump could be eating crackers and that would make me anti-cracker eating

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

FYI that means Trump dictate your actions and you are giving him control over some of your actions/beliefs.

While he lies and flips his position and generally doesn't give any fucks at all about being a hypocrite.

Please don't turn your brain off whenever Trump does something.

[–] floop@lemmy.dbzer0.com 263 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Does this guy just sit up all day trying to find new ways to be a fucking piece of shit asshole?

[–] towerful@programming.dev 133 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's part of the strategy.
Overwhelm the news cycle, see what the news picks up and push that more, let the actual bad stuff go under-reported.

[–] cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.de 33 points 1 day ago (3 children)

People keep trying to attribute planning to what can be much more plausibly explained by idiocy. Trump is not "strategically" dozing the rose garden to distract from the real news, he's just a tasteless brutish moron.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People keep trying to attribute maliciousness to stupidity as well. Mostly because it's easier to dismiss stupidity than argue against it.

He's shortsighted, narcissistic, and petty. But he doesn't do things just to prove how much of a big idiot he is. Dismissing everything he does as "idiocy" just gives him more leash to piss on everyone from.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wouldn't say those two things are mutually exclusive, Trump is dumber than shit and also a raging malicious bastard. The Nazis were both malicious as hell and stupid as fuck.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I would argue that malice is born from stupidity.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I would say the opposite. At least for the basis of this train of thought. That maliciousness makes one single-minded in their ideals and goals, which inevitably devolves into "Get mine, fuck them". Which is inherently destructive, both for the person in question and those around them.

It's the gish gallop of news: do as much bullshit as possible so nothing can be effectively blocked or countered.

Exactly. Yet another truly awful something is about to happen that'll get buried under his new patio.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 7 points 23 hours ago

No. It comes naturally from decades of practice.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Yeah how you wake up at 3:00 in the morning with a great idea but by noon you realize it was stupid. Noon never comes for him.

The deck chairs on the titanic aren’t going to rearrange themselves. If It wasn’t for shit like this he’d have to actually govern

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Dunno man, he and Elon are having quite the "will they, won't they ruin America" moment right now. He'll be solo for a bit.

Mark that shit as NSFW, please. That's worse than Burns' portrait.

[–] syaochan@feddit.it 1 points 9 hours ago

If only I knew how to do that, I put it behind a spoiler tag because I cannot find the nsfw thing

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

It'll be expensive gold paint from one of Don's mates

[–] voodooattack@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Especially the showers

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How long until he changes the US flag to one with his face on?

Like his social media avatar

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh, it will happen.

And when will he force every home and business to have a portrait of himself on the walls? Because, that will probably happen, too.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

He's admitted he admires North Korea's dictator and the way he's treated

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Cosmetic injustices like this are an intentional distraction from the regime's attempts to steal all public funds, kill Americans who need Medicaid, continue their ethnic cleansing campaign at home and support Israel and Russia's ongoing genocides.

The rose gardes deco has gotten controversy, but a green space seems way better then drab concrete. Such a tall flagpole wont even be seen in press conferences. I bet he got stuck in some mud and got mad, and the flag pole is a vain attempt to say hes got a huge pole..

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I bet he got stuck in some mud and got mad,

That really is all there is to it. Dude can barely navigate stairs. Actually walking on grass after rain makes him look dopy and his ego can't handle it

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Concrete holds a LOT of heat. A summer news appearance on it with normal ~~hear~~ heat, humidity, lights could cause heat exhaustion or stroke, since the very young and elderly body temperatures have trouble regulating.

Don't worry! Once the newly poured concrete has cured, they're going to cover it in gold tin foil and it'll be fabulous.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago

Honestly I could totally see that happening
