While in thought, sometimes something funny pops up, or I make a 'joke' and laugh at it, not always audibly but that does happen.

I wondered how common that is, so thought I'd ask, How often do you laugh at your own thoughts?

For me it's probably daily, but I do my best to not openly laugh 'cause I just don't want to look like the weird guy standing in the corner laughing at nothing, you know?

Put in some headphones and pretend you're listening to something funny

Enough to be sent to an Asylum. Very loudly. I'm a very funny guy (to me).

Enough times a day that I couldn't possibly keep track of it.

Yep. Quite often I phase out thinking something, and suddenly wake up to wife asking "what are you smiling?"

[–] BellyPurpledGerbil@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All the time. It's usually hard to explain, or it was incredibly inappropriate.

I have quite a dark sense of humour, so often when I laugh I can't explain it to people, unless they are my very close friends who share the same humour.

I'm usually in the company of friends who hear me laugh out of nowhere and ask me to say what it was, thankfully. But I otherwise wouldn't explain. It's often a very mean joke at someone's expense (mine included), dark, or absolutely terribly unfunny to everyone except me

I very rarely laugh, but I often smile because of something I thought of and end up smiling at strangers by accident.

I laugh in my sleep, according to Mrs Sanguine - apparently my dreams are funny 😁

I write as a hobby and am constantly thinking about my character and things he can say or do. A lot of it is funny, at least to me. So, I'll either laugh, or I (apparently) have a very specific smile that I do, because my husband can always clock when I've had a particularly good thought.

Sober maybe like once a week, while high it happens a lot.

More then anybody else.

[–] nicgentile@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Multiple times daily.

I always try to tell my brain not to trick myself. Wait.

All the time. But never in a laughing with me kind of way
